We recently connected with Harsh Kumar Shakti and have shared our conversation below.
Harsh Kumar , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is ‘Katha – The Indian Story’. This play was a monumental production that traced the evolution of ancient Indian history to the present day, showcasing the journey of our culture and heritage across generations. I had the privilege of performing in New York, marking my debut on an international platform.
As I stepped onto the stage, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves, knowing that this was my first time performing for a global audience. The experience was incredible, and I was thrilled to receive a warm response from the audience.
What made ‘Katha’ even more special was its universal message of cultural exchange, understanding, and the importance of preserving our heritage for future generations. I felt proud to be a part of a production that highlighted the richness and diversity of Indian history and culture.
It was a privilege to play the role of Uddham Singh, a freedom fighter who fought for India’s independence, and to bring his story to life on stage. I was hesitant at first, as I knew the responsibility of portraying a historical figure, but the director’s passion and vision convinced me to take on the challenge.
As I delved deeper into the script and the character, I realized the significance of Uddham Singh’s story and the impact it had on India’s struggle for independence. I spent hours researching, rehearsing, and perfecting my performance to do justice to the role.
The grand finale was a personal highlight for me, as I danced to the iconic song ‘Naatu Naatu’ – which recently won the prestigious Oscar award! – in a spectacular performance that left the audience mesmerized.
Overall, ‘Katha’ was a dream come true, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my passion with a global audience. It was a night I’ll always treasure, and I look forward to many more international performances in the future.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a performance artist with a passion for storytelling and cultural exchange. Born and raised in India, I was trained in method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York. Additionally, I refined my craft by learning the Meisner technique under the guidance of acclaimed actor Saurabh Sachdeva in Mumbai.
My career in the entertainment industry spans roles in Bollywood films, regional language movies, and theater productions. My international debut came with ‘Katha – The Indian Story’, a play that traced the evolution of Indian history and culture. I played the role of Uddham Singh, a freedom fighter who fought for India’s independence. The play was performed in New York, marking my debut on an international platform.
As a performance artist, I specialize in creating immersive experiences that showcase the richness and diversity of Indian culture through acting and theater. My work aims to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary art forms, making it accessible to a global audience.
What sets me apart is my strong foundation in method acting and the Meisner technique, which enables me to deliver authentic and nuanced performances. I’m most proud of my work in ‘Katha’, which allowed me to share India’s history and culture with a global audience.
But what I want to share with the world is a message of hope and inspiration. I believe that if you have faith in two things – yourself and a higher power – you can overcome any obstacle and achieve your dreams. It’s this belief, combined with hard work and dedication, that has brought me to where I am today. I want people to know that they too can conquer their dreams and make them a reality by simply believing in themselves and God. It’s a message that I hope to spread through my work and inspire others to chase their passions and never give up.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My career in the entertainment industry began with humble roots in short films and dance performances at the academy. Despite showing promise in auditions, landing lead roles proved to be a challenge. Undeterred, I continued to audition and manifest my dreams. My persistence paid off when I secured a lead role in a Tollywood movie alongside a renowned actor. However, fate had other plans, and the project came to an abrupt halt mid-shoot.
Undeterred by this setback, I continued to hone my craft through acting classes and play performances in Mumbai. My dedication and hard work eventually led to another opportunity to shine in a Bollywood movie. Although the film’s release didn’t materialize, I refused to let disappointment dampen my spirits. Instead, I chose to learn from my experiences and keep pushing forward.
Through my journey, I’ve come to realize that resilience and determination are essential in overcoming obstacles. My story serves as a testament to the power of hope and perseverance, inspiring others to stay committed to their passions and never give up on their dreams.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to connect with others on a deeper level, evoke emotions, and inspire new perspectives. There’s no greater joy than knowing that my performance or art has touched someone’s heart, challenged their thoughts, or brought them joy.
As an artist, I strive to create work that resonates with people, sparks meaningful conversations, and leaves a lasting impact. The creative process itself is also incredibly fulfilling – bringing ideas to life, experimenting with different mediums, and continually learning and growing.
Ultimately, being an artist allows me to tap into my passion, share my vision, and make a positive difference in the world. It’s a privilege to be able to do what I love, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my creativity with others.
