Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raheem Nelson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raheem, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
A project that’s meaningful to me is an illustrated infographic I created for The City of New Haven. It’s my hometown and we were featured as one of the top places to be in the world for The New York Times.
I was hired to create visual notes for the meeting/celebration on this achievement. This has been one of my most impactful illustrations to date because I was able to create work for branding, marketing and raising awareness of the city.
It led to me winning grants and getting major recognition statewide.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Raheem Nelson and I’m a Creative Entrepreneur based in West Haven, CT. I’m most interested in Illustration, Photography and menswear style. I got into the creative industry through my love of comic books and cartooning from a young age.
Currently I create visual notes for business meetings that become marketing takeaways. I’m a menswear blogger and a photographer and Brand Ambassador for The Epic Network.
For my day job I am The Marketing Director for The Milford Arts Council. I handle everything from social media marketing to outreach to events. I’m most proud of having one of my paintings featured in Times Square for NFT NYC.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I had more mentors when I was younger. People in my industry to really guide me to monetize my work. I had them but it took me longer than I would’ve liked to discover artists that took me under there wing to guide me through the ins and outs of professional art. I also wish I was aware of how to apply through grants as a younger artist.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
NFTs have had a major impact on my art career in terms of community building and engagement. It’s a great way for artists to generate passive income without having to worry about connecting with galleries. It’s also been amazing to directly interact with buyers.
