We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mondaii. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mondaii below.
Mondaii, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
At an early age, I always knew that music was my calling. It was simply the control it had over me. The way it could influence my feelings like no other. The rush it gave me. I knew at an early age that it was something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. As child I studied the greats like Michael Jackson, Prince, Notorious B.I.G, Lisa Left-Eye Lopez, Missy Elliot, Outcast, Eminem and many more. They showed me essence of what it took to bring a song to life through energetic characterizations. By studying each of their skillsets, I learned the importance of manipulating diction, pitch and tone. These are elements that are conducive in making ones voice sound distinctively unique. Later on in my life, I would face a few challenges but find that fiery desire to be one of the greatest musicians of all time still burned within in me.

Mondaii, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Meet Mondaii ( pronounced, “Mon-day”) , a small town , quirky, unconventional DIY rapper/songwriter, and the next big thing in LGBTQ music. Not quite fitting the traditional mold of your average rap star, Mondaii chooses to take a different approach to the music scene, an approach that includes defying gender norms & deconstructing all barriers of toxic masculinity in hip hop.
Born & raised in a small town called Thomaston, GA , hometown of “ Zac Brown Band’s” “Coy Bowles“, Mondaii is no stranger to being different. With his unique inflections and potent deliveries, Mondaii is here to show you just what small town boys are made of.
Discovered by renowned RnB superstar, K’Michelle, while working at her restaurant as a server, it’s truly a Cinderella story how this small town country boy went from “serving tables” to “serving hits” – writing for artists from K’Michelle to even rappers, “Mulatto”, and “Saucy Santana” in their hip-hop smash “Up & Down.
To date the emerging MC gears up to release his fierce club anthem “X2C”, off his upcoming project “ALT”, scheduled to release in late September. With inspirations from early 2000s pop , this nostalgic masterpiece will give you all the right feels.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being a young independent artist/songwriter, I have to fight for everything that I get. Nothing is never handed to me. I am always working even when everyone is sleep. I don’t have the luxury of resting for long periods of time. The gears in my brain are always turning. I know that always have to be two steps ahead in this thing called “The Music Business”. Why? because there is always someone out there preying on your God given talent, looking to suck you dry for everything you have. The reality of this business is that everyone wants something. You just have to make sure your wants are secure before delivering your expertise. I had to learn that the hard way when I wrote for “Latto” on “Saucy Satana’s” single “Up & Down” and did not get credited or paid. Initially I didn’t even want to speak on the topic, in fear that I would get black-balled, but when you’ve been at the bottom, so many times in your life, it doesn’t even phase you anymore. The most valuable take away from that experience was to always look out for me first. I don’t care who it is. In this game you can either play or be played. But like all games, you may get bruised and hurt a little, but you just gotta keep going, and that’s what I did.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
For so long I’ve had people place limitations on what I can and can’t do. That’s actually how I got my name. Just like Mondays people have always seem to forgot about me, or overlooked my value, but remove me from the equation and I can show you someone who irreplaceable. As a previous underdog I know what it feels like to not be seen, that is why I strive to do everything so BIG that one can’t help but to see. When people see and hear me, I want to them to hear the voice of the little boys around the world who can’t speak up for themselves. That was me. Now I will roar with confidence & courage of 777 lions, and in the word’s of the phenomenal Jennifer Lopez, “I’m just getting started.
