We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marquavis Fant. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marquavis below.
Marquavis, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
Before & after leaving this world I would hope the work and efforts I put towards everything I have going on inspire my peers as well as others that may not know me personally. I would hope to be a great role model for the community to look up to. The legacy that would be left behind in the honor of my name will be held in high ranks for generations. I would want my family to know whatever obstacles life through at me I never gave up!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have many businesses that I run, Primarily my catering Business entitled “Fantastic Eats Catering”. This business I started part time while working full time over a decade ago. I relocated from Flint, MI to Dallas, TX with just a dollar and a dream. I continued my background work in retail banking while getting the feel of the new city. Business for me started out very slow until I gradually started to make different connections. I always knew the quality of food I had as well as the hustle that I could potentially make a big name for myself. I then came up with a method that would give my clients a great piece of mind. When booking my services the only thing you have to worry about is providing me with a clean and safe environment to cook. The private catering service includes, grocery shopping, set up and breakdown & the intimate luxury of having an in house chef. I walked away from my full time job as a Business Banker in 2020 and haven’t looked back since. All booking inquiries as well as my Calendar can be found at www.edsthemovement.com.
I also have my own food seasoning line that can also be purchased at www.edsthemovent.com, entitled “Fantastic Eats Spices”. I started this seasoning brand in the mist of quarantine. I figured as a chef why not leverage the seasoning blend that people can remember you from. I attempted a few trial runs to see how it would go & people loved it. I then created a logo and a few different names that I would call them. I then came up with a marketing plan that I thought would capture a lot of peoples attention, presenting a promotional video as if my product was already in local grocery stores. The launch was a complete success! Here we are in 2022 and I’ve sold out countless times! Be on the look out for additional blends!
Lastly I have an apparel line entitled “Entrepreneurs Don’t Sleep”. I created this brand back in 2016 on complete accident, Lol. It really started out as social media hashtag for expression that if you’re an entrepreneur it’s possible you don’t get the proper rest that’s needed. If you are an entrepreneur I’m sure you can relate to the fact that it’s times when we get the maximum of 2 hours of sleep because we have so much going on. I created this line because fashion is a huge statement and what other way to get the point of the brand out other than Merch. I have created a few different seasons of merchandise that you can also find at www.edsthemovement.com
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
My side hustle turned into my career, I worked as a full time Business Banker for Wells Fargo for about 4 years while being a private chef on the side. It was this one particular time that’s very significant to me only because I knew at that very moment it was time to test Faith. The word about me being so good of a chef had spread so fast I began to get calls left and right. The only hiccup I began to have was being full time employed having to turn down bookings because of my work schedule. I sat at my desk one day thinking very hard about what my next move would be. I then calculated how much I would be making if I took every booking that I had previously turned down and it was close to 3 times what I was making working at the bank. I said to myself “this is something that I’ve dream for, I can’t let this opportunity slip by”. I then went home that day and thought about it some more. The only thing I could think to do was pray about it and let God have his way. By the end of that same week my phone couldn’t stop ringing for current/future bookings. It was at that moment that I knew this life was for me. I put in my 2 weeks notice at Wells Fargo and pursued my dream.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clientele has actually been word of mouth. Once you provide such an outstanding experience your current clients with tell others about you.
