We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ciera Talley-Wesson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ciera below.
Ciera , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you manage your own social media?
Currently, I manage my social media platforms for Passionate Lips, but that will change soon. These first 4 years of managing it on my own have been ok but I feel like next year when I hit year 5 it would be best to hire a professional. I say this because sometimes I don’t have the time to do it but with a social media manager I would have that help I need especially with the growth that I’m aiming for with the company.

Ciera , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well, my name is Ciera Wesson, and I own Passionate Lips, a lip care company designed with lips in mind. I started Passionate Lips because I needed something to supplement the income I was losing during COVID. I was always taught that when you start a business make sure it’s something you are passionate about and my own lip care has always been my thing since I was a little girl. Growing up I played in my mom’s lipstick and lip gloss so why not make my business all about lips. When I started I was just making my own lip butter, it’s like Carmex but better because it’s homemade and made with all-natural ingredients and I was using lipgloss made by someone else. But after research, trial, and error I started to make my own gloss. So now, I have expanded to lip stick, scrubs, lip mask and lip liners will be coming soon. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and where I see PL in the future. We will be bigger than Cover Girl!!!

Have you ever had to pivot?
About a year ago I put my business on hold because we had a lot of family issues going on that were causing me to put my business on the back burner. I wasn’t posting the products, didn’t want to make anything and I didn’t care about sales. I was in a bad headspace which I could feel myself going down mentally which was causing me to not take care of my business properly, I was ready to just give it up and let it go but I knew that really wasn’t what I wanted to do. So I decided to take a step back from Passionate Lips to get myself together mentally, and back focused, and then I went back into business last October with a clear head and a focused mindset.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source of new clients has been word of mouth. One of my new customers when I dropped off her items stated that one of her church members told her about my products, gave her my business card and she made her purchase. Since her first order at the beginning of the year, she has placed 2 more and told a few of her friends and family about me. I used to think word of mouth wasn’t really working for me but I guess I was wrong.
