We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothia Reid a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Timothia, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
My business partner and friend, Luberta Lytle, and I took a big risk last year when we started her television show. Neither knew what we were doing, and we were scared to death that it would fail. Our motto became “Do it scared!” The opportunity presented itself when another friend got the opportunity to start her own channel. Luberta and I talked about it, and it was something that she had always wanted to accomplish. She would host her show, and I would help her with the editing and production of the show. It has been almost a year since we started this venture, and because we have been consistently taping every week and submitting shows, we are the #1 show on the channel and the #3 show on the network. Doing it scared and taking this risk is paying off due to our consistency.

Timothia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My main job at the moment is being an educator, and I teach elementary school students. Also, because I’m bilingual, I work with our English Language Learners (ELL) and their families in our district. I am currently in school to obtain my 2nd Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language to become an ELL/ESL teacher. I am an author currently working on my first picture book, which should hopefully be ready by the end of the year. However, I have been a co-author in two books and am currently working on another collaboration. I produce Living Life with LuLu, a show on the OCP Network on Tuesdays at 7 pm. I help my friend, Luberta Lytle, record and edit the show in preparation for it to air each week. I am starting my own business called TRKreiations, which covers my content creation on social media, the production of shows and commercials, and events for kids. Lastly, I am very involved in my community. These past couple of years, I have been involved in planning our local Juneteenth event with an amazing group of people.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
As I mentioned before, my business partner and friend is Luberta Lytle. We met either through a boxing class or through her granddaughter and my daughter, who were friends in high school. She was always easy and pleasant to talk to whenever we saw each other. At the time, she had started touring on the Art of Transparency Tour with Mikkita Moore as a motivational speaker, and I admired what she was doing from afar. She has this energy that pulls you in and wants you to learn more about her. I joined the tour the following year, and we began to get to know each other better because we started traveling to events together since we lived in the same city. As we continued to talk and get to know each other, our friendship grew to what it is today. We keep each other accountable and are on a journey that keeps challenging us as individuals and business partners.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My journey is ongoing as we speak. New adventures and opportunities keep popping up and I am amazed at what God has planned for me. I’m not gonna lie, but most of the time, I’m scared. I’m scared of failing. I’m scared of not being good enough to finish or accomplish the tasks set before me. There’s one thing that keeps me going and it is that my children are watching. I have two adult kids who have always been my source of motivation and two of my biggest cheerleaders. I know they are watching, and I cannot quit because I need them to understand that if I can do it, so can they. I want them to achieve everything that they set their minds to. The journey is scary but still rewarding if you work hard and give it your all.
