Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to cye. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi cye, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
It’s been a lot of up and downs, man… And I meet people all the time that are easily overwhelmed after they start in on a project. I feel that way sometimes, too, but then I remember days when I didn’t have anything to work on and would sit and spin for hours with anxiety and sh*t… It helps me reenergize, man. I think that’s what got me through finishing “The Keeper”… Which is one of my favorite albums of all time, really. It’s energy on that album that has been rotting inside me for a long a** time. I just got my chance to grab it and put it on display… TK is like my taxidermy bear head, and it’s real heads over my fireplace now. I’ve been in this spot for a long time, but it’s only in the last few weeks that myself and my team have been getting ready to go hunting again. You see, when we came to NYC we didn’t know anyone… My first time even being in the city was 2022. We met Andrew [Krivonos] because he messaged my manager on LinkedIn or IG or some… It’s a process, man. We had Brewery Studios booked out for 10 hour blocks back to back to back. And I still don’t believe in the hype, at all. I just faced my fears and let it happen. Feels like I gotta bring a trophy back to the city, though… That’s what I’m on, now.

Levi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those of you who do not know, I am cye. Soundation and GarageBand changed my life and now I travel the world meeting cool people like yourself… Recovering Child Music [4EVRGANG] is a record label that I started in 2023 for other artists that share a similar view on music and sh*t. I really just want to inspire the next ones. It’s a lot of stale energy out here and that sh*t is lame. I’m trying to get into these festivals and see the lights over the crowd, man. All my favorite artists know how to light it up… That’s where I’m trying to get to.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I don’t read as much as I should but I watched Nipsey’s videos all the time… Right before bro passed, he was on every app that I opened. I watch Eric Thomas all the time, too. I don’t know, it’s a lot that I take in. And honestly, it feels like I’m inspired by everything. When it’s time to get to work, I never struggle zoning in. It’s automatic. I take the job seriously. I sit back and watch people do this and it’s not the same as what I bring to the table. That’s all the motivation I need… I think any young man coming up in the city has that entrepreneur mindset.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yeah, it’s just not enough going on out here. I feel like when I look around the city, all I see is opportunity to start sh*t up. Like I said, I feel like any young man coming up in the city has that entrepreneurial mindset. It’s a chance on every corner to really come up. I want to take this sh*t to the heighest level and bring everyone’s energy with me. I don’t see any roadblocks or stop signs… Even If I did, I wouldn’t listen anyway. I can feel that I’m right on the brink of my next break-through in this sh*t and I won’t stop ’til I bust out the ceiling. I’ll keep climbing… No going back from here.
