We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robbie Williamson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robbie below.
Robbie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The Orange Blossom is a very nostalgic image for me. I was born and raised in Florida where the orange blossom is the state flower. Not to be confused with the fruit itself, but the trees bloom beautiful clusters of white flowers, that are also incredibly fragrant. On the island i grew up on, they have large historic orange farms with rows of these trees, and when the time of year is right you can drive a small winding road by the river and take in all this flower has to offer. The imagery and branding also speaks of a familiar americana style that I enjoy. I’ve had the name in the back of my mind for a few years now, and used it in varying degrees throughout my career, but when it came time to have an official name for my business, it seemed obvious. Orange Blossom Studio.

Robbie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I own and operate Orange Blossom Studio in downtown Phoenix, which is my first studio that is actually fully mine. I’ve been working as a freelance engineer and producer around the state for the last decade, and this last spring finally made the transition into permanence. My journey starts in Florida, and like most people on the recording studio industry, I was a musician. I had dreams of being a rockstar and touring the world…blah blah blah… As it turns out, people need to like the music your band makes for that to be a reality. I ended up connecting with a producer/engineer named Steven Tracy (of Saint Cecelia Studios) and he was in the process of building a recording studio in Tucson and I was given a chance to be part of that studio. I worked as the engineer in the B room of that studio, then eventually made the move to Phoenix. I found myself after a year or so as the engineer at a small studio called Epicentre Recording and really got to expand my knowledge in world of audiobooks and voiceover. Something I had never done, because I most had ever worked on music focused projects.
Now here we are, in May 2024, I opened my own studio. I love music. Period. I love working with a wide variety of artists and genre’s at all levels of experience. I love being able to have the knowledge, skill, and expertise to help bring people’s visions to life. That’s something that never gets old for me.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients, for me, has been two places: Instagram and my website. Instagram is my main social media for my business. It’s perfect for the studio because of the imagery and audio style content I need to post and or promote. DMing makes things really easy for new clients too.
The absolute surprise has been all the traffic to and from my website. I never would have thought so many people would find me through my website (also search results), but that has been a really pleasant surprise. I have a really simple website that i made using Squarespace. I have a very specific artistic theme and branding which carries over easily to a website design. The booking page has been my most trafficked page on my site according to analytics.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think the freelance type of job is all about pivoting. I was working in Florida, pivoted to moving to Tucson site unseen and starting on this journey by working exclusively in one studio. Moved to Phoenix, pivoted to working at many studio’s and then had to pivot during covid and do a lot of work form home and meet with clients face to face as little as possible. Now i’m pivoting again with this new business. It’s been similar versions of familiarity, but i think i’m built for this type of constant adaptation. Always ready to take on new things.
