We recently connected with Golnar Heaton and have shared our conversation below.
Golnar, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Meaning behind the logo and name of Posh Persian Boards…
If you guys did not already know I am Persian-American. My culture is very important to me and is represented in every board I make. I felt this new logo best reflected me as a Persian and my intentions. There is a flower of a pomegranate included in my logo for several reasons. My name Golnar, translates to English as the flower of a pomegranate.
Gol: flower
Nar: (anar) pomegranate
A pomegranate also happens to be the national fruit of Persia, which is now known as Iran. I felt using Persia instead of Iran in my logo because that was the original name of my country.
For thousands of years, Iran was known as Persia. The Persian Empire refers to the series of imperial dynasties that spanned from the 6th century BC to the 20th century AD. It started with the Achaemenid Empire formed by Cyrus the Great in 550 BC and was followed by Sassanid, Safavid, Afsharid and finally, Qajar rulers. When the Persian Empire is referenced today, it’s the rule of the Achaemenid Empire that comes to mind. At its height, it ranged from the Balkans and Eastern Europe to the Indus Valley.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started making charcuterie boards as a hobby and for family parties. My husband suggested that I turn it into a business, and I had an Ah-ha moment. Ever since that Christmas in 2021, I decided to see that idea through and create my business from scratch.
I have always been someone who is ambitious and wants more for myself. I am proud of myself for starting my own business and putting my heart and soul into my creations. Every single board is different, no two creations are the same. what sets me apart is my Persian background, I am able to cater to not only my American Clients but also my Middle-eastern clientele as well. My signature is putting pistachios on every charcuterie board I make. Pistachios are mentioned in the Old Testament (Genesis 43:11). In Persia (modern day Iran), pistachio trade and ownership of pistachio groves meant riches and high status. Many do not know that pistachios originated from Iran, formally known as Persia.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Google and Instagram have been the best source I’ve found for new clients. I started off my business by fulfilling orders for friends and that soon turned into their friends, then complete strangers from all over North East Ohio. I live in Fairlawn Height, Ohio, where I offer pick-up and delivery to clients. I believe word of mouth is stronger than any advertisement out there, many of my loyal customers came to me this very way!

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
I offer anything from a board for two, all the way up to catering for a wedding. my favorite thing to do is make charcuterie for events! Events are really my creative outlet, my clients come to me with a vision and I put it to life. Charcuterie is a work of art and a way of life for me.
