We were lucky to catch up with Jared & Bridget Shoup recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jared & Bridget thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We just opened our own tattoo shop called “Unity Tattoo!”
Jared has been in the tattoo/piercing industry for over 20 years.
Being in the industry for as long as I have, I’ve seen things I didn’t agree with.
After years of feeling this way, I knew it was time to make the jump and open my own shop.
I knew I could create a better place for me to do my art, and the people who choose to work with me.
With the help of my wife Bridget, we were able to establish & build Unity Tattoo.
We created Unity Tattoo with the idea of a place where people can enjoy a relaxing, sterile environment while they get their body modifications.
A place where everyone can feel welcomed, no matter who they are. A place to Unite the people who want to wear their art.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have always been very artistic. I was ready for a change in career and decided I wanted to try to find a career that I would enjoy doing indefinitely.
Tattoos and piercings have always been the coolest thing to me, and I wanted to head that direction.
I’ve been tattooing and piercing for over 20 years and still love it! In that 20 years, I’ve become well-versed in multiple styles. So far I haven’t found a tattoo I didn’t want to do.
Whether it’s small walk-in tattoos or large scale projects that take multiple sessions! I always have a great time and try my best to make everyone feel comfortable.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what sets me apart, is no matter the style of tattooing, I try to find the best possible reference to make their piece custom for them.
I’m a good listener, if they decide they want to talk during the tattoo.
If they’re unable to talk… I have a lot of good stories to keep people entertained.
I also have the reputation of being clean and professional during the whole process.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My cofounder/business partner takes care of all The clerical aspects of the business that aren’t tattooing and piercing related.
She is the love of my life, Bridget and someone introduced us when we were 16 years old. We got married at 19 and we’ve been together ever since. I couldn’t imagine that any of this would be possible without her.
In addition to the clerical work that she does, she also is in charge of building and maintaining the website, and all marketing, including social media marketing.
