We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Arregui a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, David thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My story begins the day I graduated from high school, unsure of my path forward. I harbored dreams of becoming a musician, but my family had other plans. They envisioned me as an engineer and urged me to pursue a degree in computer science. Despite my passion for music, I found myself enrolling in engineering school.
While studying computer science, I never let go of my musical aspirations. I spent countless hours recording my first album in my garage. Miraculously, that album found its way to the radio, and I was nominated as one of the best new artists in the country. Though I didn’t win the award, I gained something far more valuable: my family’s support. They agreed to let me attend music school, provided I also finished my engineering degree.
Thus began a challenging period of my life, juggling two demanding degrees. My social life took a back seat, but my hard work and perseverance paid off. I earned a full scholarship to my dream college, Berklee College of Music, which I attended after graduating with my engineering degree.
After completing my degree in music production at Berklee, I moved to California. For a long time, I struggled with the feeling that I had wasted five years on an engineering degree I didn’t need. But when the pandemic hit, everything changed. The music industry came to a standstill, and I found myself without income. I began searching for jobs and applied to a music licensing company for a producer role. I was thrilled about the opportunity, but there was a catch: I couldn’t be signed to any songwriter societies. Unfortunately, I was, and I didn’t get the job.
Feeling dejected and still searching for a way to make a living, I had an epiphany. Why not create my own music licensing company? I was a music producer capable of high-quality recordings and a computer scientist who could develop a system to sell and manage music licenses worldwide. And so, Xigla Records was born.
Combining my two degrees, I produced thousands of songs and developed a subscription service for content creators, brands, and filmmakers to purchase music. Over time, Xigla Records evolved from a music licensing company into a multifaceted enterprise, encompassing music promotion and production.
Today, Xigla Records stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that nothing happens by coincidence. Each step of my journey, from engineering school to Berklee, has led me to this moment, where my two worlds converge in perfect harmony.
David, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I started my business, I didn’t know much about music licensing or how the system would work to connect with other platforms and companies to monitor our music. I spent more than three years creating and producing music daily, often more than one song a day. I also invested hundreds of hours developing our web system to make it perfect for our customers. There were times when I wanted to give up, but my resilience and perseverance kept me moving forward. Even when I didn’t know how to market or promote my company because of limited funds, I found a way to make it work.
