Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mary Ann Landry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mary Ann, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
During Hurricane Harvey, we had several patients that had flooded and some of them were having very difficult times making ends meet. Our team rallied together and assembled essential items and hand delivered baskets to the individuals. Our goal was to give a piece of comfort and care for our patients who were struggling. A sense of community is so important.



As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well it’s an interesting story, I actually had a background in aviation and for several years was a Director of Inflight Training for a major American airline and I also was an International crewmember. At one point in my life I was introduced via a blind date to my current husband who is a Dentist. So I took my customer service experience and we integrated everything I had learned with his business model and we created our business, Consultants in Dental Aesthetics. We have something we stand for which is our Why, “We believe we can increase our humanitarian footprint through dentistry” and though we do provide dentistry brilliantly, we really stand for taking care of people and providing for the community and making sure our team members grow to be the best people they can be.



What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being committed to excellence and being value-driven has really been essential. We always ask ourselves a couple questions like, what is best for the patient and making sure that, in fact, we do offer that. We also balance that with what is best for our team and what is best for the business. As far as reputation management goes, you are what people believe. Perception is reality. You have to ensure you have your best foot forward at all times and take the patients perspective. How we balance that in our reputation is in what people say. We pride ourselves that our best marketing is word of mouth and of course it’s most affordable and what everyone wants to have. If you look at reputation, I would highly recommend looking at the reviews of a company. Ours do speak for themselves. Going the extra step, by asking for patient surveys about their experience at Consultants in Dental Aesthetics and what sets us apart from any other dental practice and upon review, you get some really real feedback. If you have a good relationship with your clients and you provide a great service with transparency then your reputation will improve.



Any advice for managing a team?
Team dynamics are probably the most critical for business success and it starts from the top down. You have to empower your people and not micromanage them. When creating a culture, everybody has to have that seeping through their pores. We look for many things when creating culture but truly being the person you want to work with is one of those things. We also ensure that our team is treated the same way our patients are treated, with dignity and respect. My Community Engagement Manager ensures that we not only engage the community and our patients, but also our team. So having certain days set aside for trainings and having the ability to break away from the daily operations is very important. We also take culture surveys now and again to make sure we are on top of things.
