We recently connected with Viridiana Marquez and have shared our conversation below.
Viridiana, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
It all started as being a background actor on several shows filming in Chicago. The very first shows I worked on were “Easy” and “Empire”. They were my very first experiences on big sets too. I remember being absolutely in awe of everyone working on those shows. From the director and actors to the makeup artists and camera crew. Everyone has such a vital and important part of making these shows come to life. I think background actors get overlooked a lot but it’s not an easy job. I think they’re such an important part of any show or film. I have a lot of love and respect for background actors after these experiences. Getting my first check from working on these shows was a huge moment for me! I could say I was a working actor! I loved every moment of that time in my life. I’m very grateful for every dollar I’ve earned since then as an actor.

Viridiana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I wanted to be an actor since I first watched the film “Titanic” when I was very little. It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do since then. The passion for it has never gone away. I hope it never does. I started in drama classes in middle school and high school. I did a lot of plays and a musical. I trained at The Second City in Chicago and then attended Columbia College in Chicago for acting. I worked as a background actor on shows then started to book several short films and commercials. None of it has been easy. I have an agent now and I’m constantly auditioning. I’m grateful for every moment I get to do acting. This industry is hard and there’s so much competition and rejection. You just have to keep going and not let anything get you down. I have no plans of giving up. I’m in this for the long haul. I’m ready for the ride no matter the bumps. Recently I worked on films, “Fidelidad” and “Froggy”. “Froggy” has been doing great at festivals and it has been so fun attending those events! Im currently working on a film I’m co-writing and producing that should start filming very soon. I’m excited for the future.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an actor, getting to bring a character and story to life is so beautiful. The most rewarding part is making the audience feel something. Having them connect to your character or the story as a whole is the absolute best part. I think it’s what makes us love movies and shows so much. Feeling something different or distracting ourselves from our everyday life. Acting is empathy. I love to emotionally relate to the experiences and lives of others. It forces me to look at the world and the people in it in so many different ways. I pay attention to people a lot more as an actor. I try to understand them and learn.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I have so many dreams and aspirations as an actor. So many things I’ve hoped to achieve since I was a little girl. I mean what actor wouldn’t love to one day be recognized with an Oscar? Or one day work with their favorite actors? That’s definitely a dream of mine, but at the end of the day, all I want is to do acting. No matter how big or small I just want to act. It’s my passion after all. I want to make a living as an actor and work work work! That’s my goal in all of this. I want to continue to grow as an actor and a person. Who knows what else could happen, right?
