We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lorraine Pennington a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lorraine, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I always knew that I would end up being a painter/artist . I had a hair salon for many years with the thought that I could explore other creative outlets while making an income from hair cutting . I designed a line of jewelry and some table top accessories for a while before I took the risk and went full time into painting.. it was a slow process before I completely had an income with just the artwork. It was a risk I wanted to take because it makes me so happy to do this for a living.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I paint very textured artwork that has a very calming minimalist feeling ! I have done artwork for hotels and many home all over the world . I am very grateful for all the people that have bought my artwork and tell me how much they love looking at it because it makes them feel good.I am very drawn to design in all forms ! I think that how you live should be celebrated everyday by living in an environment that makes you feel inspired.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media very slowly ( still building) I feel like my audience might not be giant, but the people that follow me are very engaged .
I feel that just being yourself and showing what appeals to you in all aspects of design . furniture ,food etc. just your general aesthetics kind of attracts the audience that you’re looking for.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I would say that the best source is instagram! You get to post a story and the people see what artwork is new and available .also they can go to your website that is linked in your bio. I find that I get new clients from instagram after doing a story that is shot in my studio , where the new client sees my body of work .
