We were lucky to catch up with Adam Simmons recently and have shared our conversation below.
Adam, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I started learning how to produce videos during my time at the University of Oregon. I started as an Intern at the University of Oregon Athletic Department as a video producer which helped me grow my skillset exponentially in shooting and editing. I then got an Associate Video Producer position at the Los Angeles Rams, which set the path for the rest of my career. That would be the best advice I could give: get a position and start working as soon as possible.
The most essential skill to learn early on in your career is organization. From gear to digital assets, everyone wants to work with someone who is detail-oriented and organized. People tend to forget the small things are just as important as shooting and editing.
In terms of obstacles that stood in my way early on, I would say storytelling was a challenge for me. I wanted to create fancy edits with cinematic shots, but my work always lacked a purpose. I have now learned that most professionals in the industry are looking at your story, rather than how ‘cool’ the piece is.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Adam Simmons and I am currently a video producer and business owner living in Houston, Texas. I graduated from the University of Oregon in 2019 where I worked for the University of Oregon Athletic Department as a Video Producer my junior and senior year. I moved to Los Angeles after graduation and ended up working for the Los Angeles Rams for a year as a video producer and then working for the Los Angeles Galaxy the following year. I currently work at the Houston Rockets where I work for the Emmy award-winning Red Studios as a Video Producer and Editor. I am also currently employed by the NFL as a Video Producer.
I think what sets me apart from others is my work ethic and my willingness to go the extra mile on projects. I love embracing the grind and working long hours which all comes with being successful in this field. I want potential clients to know that I give my all at everything I do.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When the pandemic hit, I lost my job at the Los Angeles Rams. My goal was to not let this faze me, so I opened up my own company and hired a few producers to work alongside me. We then grew exponentially, traveling around the country working on various projects. Within one year, we had several clients that we still work with to this day. It really goes to show how a little hard work and resilience can change your life forever. If that were to never happen, I more than likely wouldn’t have had the success I have today/.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with this journey is to have as many experiences as possible. I have been all over the country and worked with a variety of different people and that’s pretty much all I can ask for. I am driven by the idea that we need to spend our life making memories. My goal is to live an extraordinary life and become a great video producer every step of the way.
