Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hunter Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Hunter thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
A risk I’ve taken is essentially how I use my time. With YouTube, I’m consistently investing time and money into the channel, mostly in my trucks. You don’t always know what will come from that video you uploaded, but for me, if I can help save any random stranger money and also share the gospel/love of Jesus Christ, you bet I’m investing that money. With powerlifting, I’m consistently investing my body and time throughout my week not only in the gym community, but again, into the relationships with those around me to share some of the gospel/love of Jesus. If you told me a year ago I’d have a coach and compete in powerlifting state championships, regionals, and now national championships, I’d tell you you’re crazy. But what won’t He (God) do? So take the risk, make the sacrifice. Don’t get sucked into feeling FOMO and then wasting time. Be efficient, prepare for the future, and most importantly, live for the Lord. Living and loving for the Lord. That’s a “risk” I’ll stand on all day, putting your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, who not only loves you endlessly, but He came down in the form of a human to die on a cross for your and my sins. Demonstrating a perfect life and perfect love to us. If you want to connect with Christ, right now say “Lord, I repent of my sins and want you to be my Lord and Savior.” Then wait.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve recently entered competitive powerlifting (I have been powerlifting generally for two and a half years). God revealed to me this past year that I should make my love for working out to completely revolve around Him. Not that I didn’t before, but to now make Him known to others on a literal platform. To show His name in a place that doesn’t involve much of His light and love. Many people go to the gym because of heartbreak or some previous traumatic experience, looking to potentially escape and improve themselves and even potentially gain community. However, lifting weights is not a good foundation, as you can easily lose bodily function. Christ should be your rock and firm foundation. So, I’ve become more public about my faith to others in the gym community, which is also why I created my fitness page, IG: @hunterr.lifts. To bring the light of Christ to a dark place in hopes of leading His children to Him. And to show how it’s not just me lifting the weights but God’s strength through me. I started working out because of self-consciousness. I was 130lbs walking into college, just a stick. So, I began to fix that. But I didn’t involve Christ in my fitness journey much 6 years ago (when I started working out). Now, I’ve committed myself to this “ministry” with the power of God’s strength, love, and grace through me.
I have also been doing similar things with my YouTube channel. I’ve loved cars, trucks, and anything with wheels ever since I knew what a car was. 3 and 1/2 years ago I started a YouTube channel, “Hunter Wilson,” and I make videos on a couple of trucks I own. Whether that be tutorials, going to car shows, or just showing off a cool product on one of my trucks. But, one thing I noticed, as I matured into the car community, is the amount of broken people who use their cars to fill a void in their hearts. That isn’t healthy since vehicles are imperfect objects. Don’t get me wrong, I used to do the same thing, but I’ve come to see that only Christ can fill that void in your heart. I still love cars incredibly, but I know they won’t fix my hurt or please me completely. I want to show those in the car community that we all love cars, work on them, drive them, etc., but we will need more than they to solve any of our issues. I want to show that Christ is the only One who can. I have enjoyed this journey with every bolt and piece thus far.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I knew how the internet can greatly effect people and their decision making processes. There is a lot of algorithm’s people make for themselves and what gets pushed onto them (negative content). In saying that, I wish I would of taken more advantage of more social media outlets like Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, even Instagram to try to show how the Lord has been working in my life. But, mainly to pass that love of Christ on with others. We have such an incredible resource that sits in our hands and pockets all day. Our phones can connect us to anyone, anywhere, anytime. HOLY CRAP. What an era we’re in, but lets use it to do good. Whether you believe in Christ or not, use what you have at your disposal to do the better thing. But, if you are a Christ follower, then use this resource and do not be afraid. In the Bible the statement “Do not be afraid” is mentioned 365 times. God has instructed that every day of the year to not be afraid, for He has concurred death and the world. So, use your resources well. Regardless of your starting point in life.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the quote “you’re in charge of your own destiny.” Which in theory isn’t necessarily wrong, cause you definitely can choose where you want to go in life, however, why not trust a loving Father (God) who wants nothing but the best for you? All it takes is to put faith in His plan for our lives. I had the mindset of “I know what I want to do until I retire” and “no one is going to get in the way of what I’m working towards,” until God stripped me from all my hopes and dreams. Ever since He has redirected my life, it’s been so good. I’ve had to, and still am, learn to trust when it gets bumpy. But, God is faithful. So, allow Him to redirect your life. Say “Not mine, but Your will be done, Lord.”
