Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rico Chacon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rico, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would have to say my third album, It Got Greater Later, that released in 2023. I started working on this project in the fall of ‘21, and I honestly said the title out loud one day & it stuck with me. Me & my super producer Dre The Brave worked daily to create some of the best songs I ever recorded. I lost my grandfather John during the recording process, and it stunted my progress in completion for a quick second, but I brought myself back to the drawing board and mic, and I redid the whole track list of songs. My aim was for this album to be viewed as a “no skip album.” I wanted my late grandfather & sister to be proud of where I had come mentally and spiritually. This album means the most to me because of the introspective approach I gave, and it worked out perfectly fine for me, and meshed extremely well with the production. It’s truly something I’m most proud of doing in this life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Rico Chacon, the Visionary of the Youth and I’m a believer. I believe that my music is a cornerstone to healing a newer generation of world leaders. Within every line of every song, I try to connect as much possible to the audience. I was born and raised in Chicago, a city full of potential and also a city full of depression, guilt, and sorrow. My main goal within the art space was to always help someone feel free from the discrepancies of the windy city. I’ve always viewed my songs as a life guide for people in my age group or slighter younger, but also a reminder to those who have come before us that there is no limitation on maximizing your dreams. I’m most proud of the fact that my music has been my most valuable therapist. I’m hoping that each session (songs), is a motivation for the next man or woman who chooses to be brave enough to have the comfortable and uncomfortable conversations with themselves and the world.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part for me is when fans reach out to let me know how much of an influence and help I was towards their journey. I had a music peer reach out to me recently following the release of my mixtape, “The Visionary 2,” and tell me how much my work ethic inspired them to go even harder in the craft. I looked to my favorite artists for the same reason, it’s just a full circle moment for me to see what the music can do for others.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Losing my grandfather a year before I was about to release my third album, “It Got Greater Later,” then losing my grandmother the following year. It really just taught me that everyone has a time in your life, take as much advantage as you can to use the correct way. I spent many years just listening to the wisdom of my grandparents, and I can honestly say it molded me for life without them here anymore. I learned patience and how to be a thorough spirit from those two, and it made me a better man, a more focused artist, and a person who could never let his dream fade out.
