We recently connected with Imani Marshall and have shared our conversation below.
Imani, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
How I executed the idea of being a podcaster was not simple. Anyone can start a podcast but the hard part is actually getting people to listen and relate to the topics you are talking about. Im fairly new to the podcasting world and am still learning what works best for me as far as equipment and technology. But so far it’s been amazing to watch my audience grow.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got in the podcasting business mainly because I feel like there are a lot of topics that people are too scared to talk about or too nervous. My podcast is called Untitled Dysfunction and it is about life and the difficult situations that many have encountered. For example life after college, adulthood in your 20s, losing friends, etc. I believe that this is what helps set my podcast apart from others. I don’t sugar coat anything and I don’t edit or cut anything out. If I said it, it will be heard in my podcast whether I fumbled over some words or not. I do this to show authenticity, because how can I say I’m real and what I talk about is real if I’m editing everything. What I am most proud of, is my consistency and my ability to reach others in a different t way. I have had so many people reach out to me and tell me they really needed to hear my podcast or that the topic I spoke about really spoke to them. That is the goal of my podcast. To connect with others that think how I do and that have experienced real life situations and can relate to someone that has experienced it too. Something that I want my future fans and current fans to know is that I’ve got your back if no one else has it, and if you ever need someone to talk to I’m hear for you.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn is no matter what, the people in your life are going to support you in everything you do. This is not true AT ALL! I have strangers that support me way more than people I consider “friends and family”. It’s definitely something that I had to take with a grain of salt and it’s a lesson I’m glad I unlearned because if I continued to think that way I would fail and never grow as a person and entrepreneur.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media from just being myself. I post funny videos here and there, fashion videos, and just post showing who I am as a person. And I do mean everything, goofiness, clumsy, happy, etc. I’m 100% myself on social media and the reason for this is because I rather embarrass myself than have someone else try and embarrass me. Some advice I would give someone trying to grow their social media is be yourself! I use ads to get my business stuff out there as well but make your post relatable, make your page relatable. If you want to use hashtags on your post make sure that they make sense and relate to the topic you are talking about.
