Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chill, Texas!. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chill,, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
Our first dollar earned under the name Chill Texas! was when we played the Birthday party of our good friend and local legend Zade Delgadillo. We got paid an earnest amount for our work and it was one of the best feelings we’d experienced in a long time realizing it this was the first taste of what’s to come. That we could actually achieve our dreams if we work at it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Salem Valentine: We started this project so we could make music that takes older music, especially from the 70s like prog, funk and psychedelic music and re-imagines it in a way that blends it with newer genres and production to connect generations.
As for me Kenneth Huerta I’ started playing the snare in middle school and then the guitar in high-school. Listening to 80s classics inspired me to start a band so I played in a Thrash band called Social Bomb for about 5 years we released an album Live By The Slice that got a little bit of praise from our scene and played a bunch of shows with cool ass people all across Texas. Nowadays I’m playing all the instruments in my solo project StrongestManAlive just learning everything I can about making music and being a musician. Ive got 1 song out right now Lightning Eyes. I’m also 1 half of Chill Texas weve been making some a mix of psychedelic rock/heavy metal/pop fusin g our collective musical knowledge into something fun and new . We’ve got some exciting live shows booked this year and recording our debut EP. I’ve got a lot of stuff planned and I’m excited to meet new people and musicians,I’m also excited for my supporters to hear the new music and see me back out on the stage.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The process and progression. Truly and really.. Growing and learning is all I want to do. In my 20s I thought I knew everything but the more i learned the more I realized I don’t know sqaut. And I want to dive into that realm of knowledge

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Salem Valentine: Getting away from my abusive family was the biggest pivot. I had to get rid of so much equipment to survive and living in the car threw my mind and body off but I just kept making music on the computer. That was the chain of events that led me down to Southeast Texas where I eventually ended up meeting Kenneth. And here we are today. I’m glad to be breathing and making music still.
