We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Austin Arndt. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Austin below.
Austin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I loved rhyming as a child from all literature to visual arts for fun until I was released from jail out of a terrible relationship on house arrest and needed a way to cope. I always freestyled for fun with the my friends but never as a serious task. I used this to cope with loss and to vent how I felt but didn’t know how to talk to others. Telling my story of addiction , losing countless friends to suicide , overdoses , and the legal system music became my go to . After my first national tour in 2019 with Horrorcore artists Scum and Rozz Dyliams I seen how my music and message reflected to others and how many people it helped this is when I realized I could never stop and this is my path as a professional and a successful person in society.

Austin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Coming from a home where divorce broke out when I was 6 and my father having mental illness my mom worked 3 full time jobs to make ends meet for myself and my 2 older sisters. Around 9 years old I started experimenting with drugs with the older kids in the trailer park . This is where my spiral of addiction and defiance began trying to get attention from my overworked mom and father struggling with his own illness. 9 rehabs in and out of jails and councilng centers until I was finally kicked off probation when I turned 17 and got put into the adult judicial system at the time I was in a very bad drug seeking codependent relationship that ended with me turning myself in from the run and her running off with another guy which as you can imagine was a real mess. All of this was my built up to a message i didn’t know how to communicate , my issues and how to vent so I started writing which I was great at my whole life with poetry so why not. Of course I had been freestyle rapping with my best friend tone the melodic monster (Tony Maciel) but between us both going in and out institution’s we decided to take this serious as big tone and whiteboy slimm a power friend group which eventually we both agreed to end and us continue on our own path of art due to my relapse and addiction to meth and getting locked up again. Upon release I chose the name YT the most stereotypical white rapper name I could think of to reference my stance in 1 race 1 species and to declassify race that is flawed by design in my opinion.
YT also stands for Yours Truely being just me a independent human looking to build creativity in the world where ever possible. After I beat my 6 years of probation for my 3 o 1 deferral I started doing shows and building with my new found producer Rick Lucero introduced by Tony Maciel ( Tone The Melodic Monster ) . Together us 3 took our next step into making this reality by storm and it never stopped . I toured nationally for the first time in 2019 before the pandemic for over a month with Scum & Rozz Dyliams a darker genre of rap but this worked perfect for my addiction music this is where it hit perfect. I’ve expanded my merchandise game which can be seen at ytmusic.us my official self ran and built website . I do this to vent stay off hard drugs and help another with their issues I hope and pray that showing my change in habits which was vital can help others see a choice to a disease can be cured with replaced positive habits.
I never planned on really going this far. I went from a junkie and a trash individual to big business. I make music to keep me sober and maybe help another out. I’ve came so far but I still have so far to go. Nothing at this point in my career could stop me from doing what I love.
In my personality music made me a better me a more reasoning self controled person. I’ve very big on showing love and respecting real music. Without my music I don’t really know if I would be here today speaking with you.
This is a cut throat industry when I was knew I learned that too fast robbed for money for services paying overpriced amounts to get things done but it fades away. The more connections and friends I made the better things got l. I realized quick to capitalize on my personality and just be me. Ever since things have been going amazing.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a artist to me is having breath in my lungs as a person who overdosed and did hard drugs you can figure out the importance of life and giving back to those who care or want to listen but I’ve learned if I put myself first with good intent the ripple effect is positive for all I come in contact with or that my music resonates with.
My success is recovery, solidity in my home, and sharing the love as well as creativity in this socially disconnected world.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There is more to Austin Arndt than meets the eye. Going by the moniker of YT which is a spin on the name “Whitey” or “Yours Truely”, being a artist as a one-man music powerhouse. Having forayed into the world of rap after recovering from addiction, I did not pump the breaks I took his talents even further. As a self taught rapper music producer, sound engineer and entrepreneur as a artist I chose to develop music with a purpose, creating sounds that not only allow myself to cope with his own recovery but aid helping others around the world.
YT is an accomplished artist on the rise.
