Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kitty Pawell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kitty , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?

If I could go back in time I would have started earlier, but then again I am grateful I did start later. The reason I say that is because there are an abundance of resources that were not available like they are now. That alone has made me not regret my decision to start when I did.

Kitty , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

As I said before I’ve always written, but what really helped me cross the line from writer to author was TikTok! Now when you hear that you may ask yourself: how does a social media app help you take the plunge? Well, once I became a user of the app I noticed there was an abundance of independent authors putting themselves out there and I simply thought to myself: that could be me too! And so, I didn’t hesitate and pushed publish!
My TikTok has really grown as well. I have over 5000 followers!
Now, when you hear that number you would think I have at least 5000 readers right? Sadly that’s wrong. My follower and reader count don’t match at all, but that’s apart of the game. Building up your community and finding your audience. It can be quite exhausting and even make you want to give up, but hearing at least one person say they loved your book really makes it all worth it!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Traditional publishing is the only way to go.
When you first think of a published book your mind snags on the big publishing houses such as St Martin’s Press or Harper. And that’s what I thought when I was younger, but that isn’t the case anymore! Self-publishing is a thriving method to get your book out into the world! Now, there are stresses that come with the self-publishing option, but it’s the option I would choose each and every time!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

Although buying our books are great, sharing our posts on any and all social media really helps us! That’s the best word of mouth and will help us Indie’s grow! That’s what we want most: to find our people!
