We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Singer Sterling a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Singer thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I Learned to do what I do from bigger people in the industry who gave me a chance at a young age. Even though they were very hard on me, it taught me how to make it in this industry and to have thick skin. On the Artist side of the industry, the skills that were most essential was learning voice control. However, on the business side of the industry, the skills that were most essential was the networking aspect of things the obstacles that stood in my way in the years of me in this career pathway was allowing, certain things to slow me down when I should have kept going and not took a break.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started in the music industry at Just 14 years old singing background for Grammy award winning artist. I traveled and sung background for six years until finally being pushed to go solo as an artist. I released my first solo single that hit billboards within a week, then stopped making music for over a year when I decided to make music again I switched genres to R&B. After the release of my first R&B record, I once again hit Billboard almost immediately having hundreds of thousands of streams worldwide. I then began to work with Universal Music Group on a deal. That was my most proud moment, knowing that I had accomplished something that many artist dreamt of. After releasing a few singles, I then found a passion for the business side of the music and entertainment industry. I began to manage Artist and help them get their numbers where mines were and above. Which led me to working with many artists and even filming a TV show About how I’ve helped many artists in the industry go to the next level. Today I am still an Artist and successful Music executive working with some of the top artists in the industry today.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Of course, there is a particular goal that I am trying to accomplish. I want to be responsible for blowing up at least five major A-list Artist . I want to be there music Executive and coach them the whole way to the top all the way to the Grammys.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is having thousands of people that you may or may not know listen to your music and enjoy it, bringing a great feeling and/vibe to them that they could really need at the moment.
