We recently connected with Lucho Escobar and have shared our conversation below.
Lucho , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
My father and I share the same name, a beautiful testament to my mother’s love for him. I grew up with various nicknames to set me apart from my dad, and many of them were amusing or not truly reflective of who I am. When I moved to the US, one of the nicknames that resonated with me was Lucho, derived from my first name Luis and the Spanish verb “Luchar,” meaning to fight. This name encapsulates my constant drive to fight against the norm and adapt my skills and knowledge to the ever-evolving landscape of advertising and marketing. As a passionate lettering artist, I relentlessly seek to learn and apply fine techniques to every project. As Lucho, I proudly stand as an unapologetic ARTsonist, challenging conventional strategies to convey powerful messages and create artwork that ignites meaningful conversations and spreads ideas freely.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those who haven’t had the pleasure of stumbling upon my work (lol), let me take you on a colorful journey through my creative adventure. Picture a young kid, barely able to draw stick figures, already captivated by the bold world of letters. Graffiti was a way to get introduced to rapid art—those fast, audacious tags on walls and the unique signatures everywhere caught my eye and fired up my imagination.
Fast forward to high school graduation, and there I was, navigating the maze of potential careers. Architecture? Too many straight lines. Engineering? Not enough color. Art History? Almost, but not quite. After earning an Associate’s degree and enduring the delightful chaos of customer service, I finally had my “Eureka!” moment: Graphic Design. Yes, I was 25—fashionably late to the party—but as they say, better late than never.
Then came the game-changer: Instagram. I discovered a treasure trove of lettering artists, both in Spanish and English, and just like that, my path was clear. The rest, as they say, is history.
Nowadays, I specialize in creating bold and innovative lettering projects that transform brands into visual fireworks. Whether it’s logos, branding, advertising, or even apparel, I bring a fearless creative spirit to every project. Think of me as an unapologetic artsonist, setting the world alight with daring and dazzling designs.
What sets me apart? It’s my unwavering commitment to authenticity and pushing the creative envelope. I believe in the power of bold, unapologetic creativity to ignite brands and captivate audiences. I’m not just a designer; I’m your strategic partner, here to tell your unique story through meticulously crafted visuals.
I’m most proud of my ability to blend artistic passion with strategic insight, delivering designs that are not only eye-catching but also deeply resonant. My mission is to help brands embrace their true essence and make a lasting impact with fearless and authentic creativity.
So, to all potential clients and followers, here’s the deal: my work is fueled by a deep love for lettering and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Whether you’re looking to revamp your brand, craft a memorable ad campaign, or just need a killer design, I’m your go-to. Let’s set the world on fire with creativity and have a blast doing it!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The key to successfully growing has always been consistently delivering high-quality work while staying true to yourself. People often choose to work with individuals based on their personality rather than just their skills. While having a strong portfolio is important to showcase your abilities, being genuine, approachable, dedicated, and respectful goes a long way. Word of mouth is a powerful tool, and people will always share positive experiences, as well as quality work. A great experience leads to great referrals.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of my main goals is to surprise people with the work I do. I love seeing the surprised expression on a client’s face when their expectations have been exceeded. There’s nothing more rewarding than that. It’s also incredibly fulfilling when my 9-year-old daughter sees my work displayed in public, points it out to anyone around, and proudly exclaims, “My dad designed that,” with a big smile on her face.
