We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kitchy Crouse. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kitchy below.
Hi Kitchy, thanks for joining us today. What’s one of the most important lessons you learned in school?
Going to Design School taught me a lot. From the many fields that you can work on, to the importance of the history of Design.
But most importantly, I learned how to work as a team. Contractors and sub-contractors are the most important keys to success. They do the execution of your ideas and there has to be a very open communication to make things happens functionally and aesthetically. I leaned that any detail that is not specifically called out on the drawings is an opening for mistakes. And I got to experience that in real like.
Most of project were group project, which not always were my favorite. But that prepared me to deal with different people, different tastes and be able to come to successful results.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have a unique sense of design and style. My design comes from living in many countries, experience many cultures and being able to experiment with colors and patterns. KC Interior Design is a full-service Interior Design firm based in beautiful Encinitas. Our philosophy is built on the dual concept of client service and design excellence. It is about how well the space, inside and out, reflects the people in it, by inspiration, creativity and function. We take great pride in creating a relationship with our clients that allows this process to move smoothly and to achieve a space that reflects them effortlessly and uniquely.
I want the world to know that I am different. My design is not your typical southern California design – and I love it. I am also proud of having 3 wonderful woman that work for me and with me. It is a blessing.
It wasn’t easy to get here. It is challenging to start as a designer as you don’t have a portfolio and no one will hire you if you don’t have a portfolio. I was blessed to have a husband in the industry that help me get my first jobs and after a few project and a lot of hard work I was able to build a business on my own.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Be a good leader. Settle the example and work hard. Try to have an open communication with your team and listen to what they have to say. Offer perks and value their achievements.
Do out of the office activities.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
What I learn is the more genuine you are, the more people will like you. Social media doesn’t come naturally to me but it is necessary to the business. And I learned to adapt to it. Another major point is consistency. You have to show up for your audience.
