We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful ladies from Two Girls Media, Brigitte Carucci and Vicki Harrison. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with them below.
Thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Two Girls Media: We manage our own social media (including all the photography) and feel that us being personally involved, and our responsiveness (both on social media and email), is one of the keys to our growth and success. Too often brands get too big and aren’t responsive, and we wanted to avoid that issue. While managing our own social media is challenging (and seems like its own full time job sometimes!), it’s too important to not do it right.

Love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Brigitte: My business partner and I have complementary skill sets. Vicki is adept at brand design, web site building and SEO optimization. My background is photography, social media and copywriting. We both have marketing experience, and together it really makes the whole package for our clients and the communities we serve.
Vicki: We joined forces eight years ago to champion small businesses. We both live in a small town filled with small businesses and we wanted to celebrate that. Through a variety of services, events and products, our focus is always on sharing small businesses and their stories.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Two Girls Media: Every business owner had to take a hard look at their business during 2020, and if you didn’t pivot, your business may not have survived the pandemic. We had rented an office the year before Covid, and part of that rental decision was to provide an open space for people to rent to host workshops, meetings and the like. Of course once Covid hit, that killed that profit center, so we had to do a deep dive and reimagine how we could use the space. We ended up subletting part of our office and added more products to our line up. We also provided one-on-one marketing consulting for free to business owners who needed help rethinking their own business during Covid, and provided creative out-of-the-box marketing ideas. Although pivoting is something that was seemingly synonymous with the pandemic, we call it “pruning the weeds,” and do it often as a way to examine what’s working, what isn’t and what we want to do more or less of.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Brigitte: We get asked this question a lot! We both live in the same lake community and our kids went to the same elementary school. Vicki sews and I don’t. I happened to post on Facebook looking for someone to sew patches on my daughter’s Girl Scout sash. We started getting to know each other and became friends, and that led to “adventuring” days where we explore new towns, shops, restaurants, historical attractions and more. Through many car rides and conversations, we realized our skills had some synergy and that was the beginning of Two Girls Media.
We started working out of our cars and couches and held meetings at the local Dunkin’ Donuts. Every time we’re at Dunkin’ now, we definitely have a soft spot for it and are always reminded that you have to crawl before you can walk.
