Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lindsay Partridge. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lindsay, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
There are some professions that thrive in a remote environment. I believe that graphic design is absolutely a position that is most effective, to a business, when it is executed remotely. Ultimately, a company wants their audience to “feel” their brand. They want the visual representation to be accurate, memorable and unique. A designer wants to give that to their customers, but the best way to get the best work out of your designer is to let them soak in some solo time. A graphic designer is most effective when they are given the opportunity to escape into a company’s brand, without interruption.

Lindsay, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an enthusiastic graphic designer that has 14+ years of experience. I began my career in a print shop (4 years), served as the creative design manager for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (6 years) and am now in my fourth year as a freelance graphic designer. My years with the print shop and The Show laid the foundation for my career, but my recent years as a business owner have really excelled and energized my creative abilities. There is a strength that comes behind designing for multiple businesses. I love it. I love that it keeps me on my toes. I love that I’m not stagnant by only seeing things from the viewpoint of one brand. Having my own business has given me to the flexibility to be the mom and wife that I want to be … which makes me a happy and confident worker.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
The relationships that I made, while on staff at The Show, were an integral part of my success in launching my own business. I’m so thankful for the trust of the amazing people that I worked with that still contract to me and recommend my services. Also, I made wonderful relationships with many talented printers, while on staff. Their support, recommendations and business have meant the world to me.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth has been my greatest driving force for new clients. Full honesty … I get very, VERY nervous to pitch myself and my services. I am so grateful that my clients are so happy with my services that they do that leg work for me. It’s also a testament to the fact that everyone has their strength and just because you are amazing in one area of marketing (or any profession), it doesn’t mean that you are the answer for ALL areas. I am killer at graphic design and writing, but I am not interested or strong in verbal marketing.
