We recently connected with Kenzie Travers and have shared our conversation below.
Kenzie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
A turning point moment for me that felt like a big risk was quitting my full-time corporate job, selling all of my stuff and moving to another country while transitioning my in- person community to an online platform for feminine physiology based living. There was a lot of fear and resistance for many years to let go of the safe and secure attachment to my job, even though I knew it was quickly burning me out. It felt like all the doors in my life were closing and my higher self/the universe/ whatever you want to call it, was forcing me out of my comfort zone to create what had been brewing beneath the surface of my soul.
Kenzie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kenzie and I’ve been in the fitness and wellness industry for almost a decade. Through the channel of teaching yoga, leading trainings and coaching, managing and opening yoga studios in Boston and my own personal journey with life and loss, I became really curious about how grief, emotions and trauma are stored in the body. So much of our healing comes with complete unraveling of how we’ve been trained to operate in our society, and I wanted to create experiences that were more deeply connected. In that exploration of connecting deeper with myself I realized how mainstream fitness and our culture doesn’t give any grace or speak to feminine physiology. I believe that aligning movement and lifestyle with where we are in our menstrual cycles impacts how we show up in our lives. How we show up for our life is reflected in how we serve our body, and we are not educated to a biological level how to do this as women. Most of us hit puberty and are immediately put in birth control, disconnecting our brain from our pelvic organs, and then bulldozed into a workout world and sick media culture of disordered eating and strength training that is specific to old tradition of male anatomy. Can you imagine if we learned at younger age how to balance our hormones and regulate our nervous system, digestion and overall health, and prevented the mass wave that is currently happening: infertility, PCOS, endometriosis, hormone imbalances, miscarriages, etc etc etc. We live in a world, society and culture that shapes us to be very controlled, tense, tight, rigid, prepared for the outcome, and that creates a lot of tension tightness and holding in the body, which creates adhesion, buildup, blockages and cuts off our vital functioning, not to mention layered with all that we experience in life and that shape us. So when we can come back to intentional movement, breath and relationships with our innate physiology, We allow our muscles, fascia and all our systems to soften, unclench and become more fluid and increase blood circulation and lymph flow. Through a program called flesh and blood female body literacy with Carly Rae Boudreay., another program called flow with your flow fertility awareness with Lindsey Sara and other trainings and grief workshops, I explored coming home to my body through elimination of birth control, understanding my anatomy, cycle and biology which is something we never are truly educated on in depth, to the point where our brain is cut off from our pelvic organs and therefore, as women, our womb space and center for creativity and life force energy where ideas and dreams are rooted, and what makes us unique and powerful is blocked. I began hosting women’s circles to remember the powerful practice of women gathering and sharing stories, witnessing each other, learning from one another and creating beauty together. We explored expression through dance, singing, flower crown creations, embodiment rituals, anatomy lessons, and full moon intentions and sound healing. These experiences led to day and weekend retreats, and diving even deeper into
How I can serve my community. I’m currently in a womb practitioner training program to learn womb and belly bodywork to support women who are dealing with anything from hysterectomy healing to irregular periods , and so much more. How we sit how we eat and the information we take in daily impacts our body and through the softening of our fascia and realignment of our organs through intentional bodywork, we can shift our entire perception of reality. my online platform, the soft spot, is a virtual sanctuary space for women to learn in depth about their cycles as seasons and how we can deeply nourish ourselves and shift our lifestyle without restriction or fear. We have prerecorded body rituals. Anatomy deep dives, monthly yoga classes, educational
Workshops, full and new moon live workshops in person gatherings and bodywork opportunities.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
My biggest advice for managing and leading a team is nourishing and taking care of ourselves first we are not able to serve others if we are not serving ourselves. If we are not well rested or well fed in a deeply nutrient way that is how we will show up to the people in our life. Setting boundaries has been a huge lesson for me and I think can be really hard for a lot of people because we can come off as blunt or rude or selfish but setting boundaries is super important in reserving energy and sustaining all that we have going on our lives
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I feel like our entire lives are an unlearning and unconditional from what we are taught to come back to our truest, most authentic and raw wild primal self. Every day is a dance between who we are told we need to be to succeed and society, and who are truly meant to be as a unique being
