We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mackenzie Preacher a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mackenzie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Yes! I am super happy that I am a business owner and can be my own boss. I wouldn’t give having a different job even a chance. I get the option everyday to make someone look and feel beautiful. The clients i’ve had in my chair have gone through cancer, at home issues, post partum depression, lost a loved one, and much more. Most jobs don’t give you an opportunity to change someone’s point of view on how they look at themselves or even make them feel good.

Mackenzie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Honestly I’ve wanted to be a hairdresser almost my entire life. It never was an option not to be a hairstylist. Most hairstylist have a specialty of what they mostly want to do. I didn’t know for a long time until I met Kiara Bailey. She owns Hairlingerie which is a beautiful brand of hair extensions and is one of the most bright souled people you’d ever know. She invited me to a class in Vegas once I graduated cosmetology school. Once I went to the class my eyes were opened from her, she taught me how to make money, how to talk to people ect. The brand of extensions Hairlingerie isn’t just any regular brand of extensions. They are luxury for a reason. Most hair brands will have chemical coatings and the hair will shed. Which causes the hair not to last very long. Hairlingerie is the only brand of extensions that don’t have either of those. They seriously are the best extensions that money would buy. Most of the clients that I bring in have extremely fine hair, or had to cut there hair and regretted it. They feel bald and insecure. Not how anyone should ever feel. The second extensions are installed it completely changes not only the appearance but as well as the way they look at themselves. My clients become are more confident, happy, and excited. I’m not like a lot of hairstylist, I want my clients to be happy mentally and physically and the brand that Kierra Bailey had created has truly helped my clients and me.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Luckily I have amazing parents, Micheal and Anita who have helped me with everything. They are the type of partners that would drop everything to make sure I am ok. The only issue for me was I didn’t know anyone in Nashville. I grew up in a small town called Cameron Park in Northern California. I was 18 at that time and it wasn’t the easiest. No one when they are 18 wants to be talking to a random stranger on the other side of the country where they didn’t grow up. So in every way possible I tried not to. I promoted myself on facebook instagram. Anywhere I could without talking with someone face to face trying to get at least one client in my chair. One day I was in Target and I saw a Pretty older women with fine hair and I convinced myself to talk to her. She is still my client today. Since then I have talked to random strangers confidently, knowing I can change someone’s perception of themselves.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch by Facebook or Messages, I have learned why a lot of clients don’t go back to their stylist. When you go to a stylist you put your entire trust in their hands. I always make sure to check in a least a week after just to make sure everything is running smoothly. With clients that want to book I always recommend a consultation, these help you and I get on the same page. To get in touch with me, I recommend texting or booking online through my website!
