We recently connected with Sidney Travis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sidney, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
Before I became a film industry professional, I was a preschool teacher for 7 years. I observed many things that changed my life but one takeaway was the approach to teaching. I practiced student centered approach to teaching, which mean you teach what the students want to learn, versus what the teacher wanted the student to learn. This change is needed because the American Education System needs to be updated and students deserve an alternative way of learning.
When student learn about what interests them, they retain information more effectively.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
One of my biggest inspirations to rap comes from basic word play: I’m only here for the bars. This is my art form, finding and using words that rhyme in synchronization with melodious instrumentals to form a coherent and cohesive piece of literary work.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
There was a strike in 2023 in the movie industry. Prior to the strike, I worked as a rental agent/ foreman at a lighting story for 9 years. After the strike I was fired and had to find other employment. The thing is, no one wanted to hire me!! It was the most uncomfortable I had been in such a long time. It made me find other ways of payment such as delivering food, doing odd jobs, etc. it took 7 months to find another job, the only jobs that works hit me were movie jobs (acting, gaffing, gripping).
It feels like I’m meant to work in the movie industry!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me is my work ethic, authenticity, and knowledge of gear and etiquette.
