We were lucky to catch up with Rini K recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rini, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Oh my god, that’s such a hard choice to make! One that comes to mind immediately is my work as a songwriter on Haley Faye Rosenthal’s EP “My Ghost.” This concept EP explores the grief experienced while battling a chronic illness. I’ve always been open about my own health challenges, and while this was Haley’s story we were telling, the process was very cathartic and healing for me as well. With her permission, I sing the songs I co-wrote with her at my shows because they feel like an integral part of my story too.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was 11 years old when I started writing songs, and once I started, I never stopped. It lit me up in ways no other hobby ever did, and that’s how I knew I wanted to make music and entertainment my life. I was so determined to make it happen that I learned music production at 13 to get my first project out there. After joining TikTok, I was fortunate to gain a platform of fans and connect with incredible collaborators who have shaped me into the artist I am today.
Acting is a recent pursuit of mine, and I absolutely love it! I’ve always been enamored with TV and film and have had the pleasure of acting in some short films, which gave me a taste of the business. Now, all I can think about is when I will get to be on set again!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, it’s seeing the individual fan stories about how much my songs affect them. When I get messages and comments from people saying a song was there for them and understood them when no one else did, it’s overwhelming in the best way. Entertainment offers escapism from reality, and music and film give us that much-needed break from a terrifying and heartbreaking world. Knowing I provide someone with that escapism is an indescribable feeling that truly puts me in the highest emotional state.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think it’s the “why” aspect of our lives. Why would we drop everything and dedicate ourselves to an industry that’s not only notoriously difficult to make a living in but also very draining on our mental health? While I can’t speak for everyone, based on what I’ve witnessed and my own personal experience, we are called to make art so strongly that we simply can’t live without pursuing it.
I have vivid memories of lying awake at night as a little girl, wanting so badly to pursue a music career before I even had the opportunity to do so. I was around nine years old and had no idea what I was in for or what exactly I wanted to do. I just knew I wanted to create and share my stories with the world. I wanted to be to someone what my favorite artists were to me.
