We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Latrice recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
Starting my own coaching practice was a journey driven by passion and a desire to make a meaningful impact and build community. The early days were filled with both excitement and challenges.
The first main step was identifying my niche. I wanted to focus on maternal development, teen mom advocacy, and holistic wellness because I saw a need for comprehensive support in these areas. I began by conducting thorough market research to understand the needs of my target audience and to identify gaps in existing services.
Next, I worked on building my brand. I created the “Normalize Nurturing U” movement to encapsulate my mission and vision. This included developing a professional website, establishing a strong social media presence, and creating marketing materials that communicated my values and services effectively.
One of the key challenges was securing initial funding. I had to carefully budget for, marketing expenses, and professional development. I also faced the challenge of building a client base from scratch, which required a lot of networking, word-of-mouth referrals, and building relationships within the community.
Another challenge was balancing my time. As a solo entrepreneur, I wore many hats – coach, marketer, administrator, and most important title Mother! Managing these roles while ensuring high-quality service to my clients was demanding.
Looking back, if I could do anything differently, I would invest in a mentor or business coach early on. Having someone to guide me through the process would have helped me avoid some pitfalls and make more informed decisions.
I eventually hired a PR agent 3 years later and started a visibility campaign. My PR agent brought a wealth of expertise in media relations, branding, and strategic communication. Together, we developed a comprehensive visibility campaign aimed at enhancing my profile and connecting with a broader audience.
For young professionals considering starting their own practice, my advice is to be clear about your vision and stay committed to your mission. Build a strong support network and don’t be afraid to seek help when needed. It’s also crucial to continuously educate yourself and adapt to changes in your field. Lastly, prioritize self-care to avoid burnout – your well-being is essential to the success of your practice.
Starting my practice was not easy, but the rewarding experience of helping others and seeing the positive impact of my work made it all worthwhile.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello!
My name is Brittany Latrice, and I’m the founder of Black Blossom Society. For those who may not know me, my journey into the world of coaching and advocacy began with a deep-seated passion for helping women, especially mothers and teen moms, navigate life’s complexities and achieve their fullest potential.
How I Got Started
My interest in maternal development and advocacy was sparked by my own experiences and observations of the challenges faced by mothers and young women. I am pursuing studies in psychology to better understand human behavior and mental health, which equipped me with the knowledge and skills to provide meaningful support. Recognizing a gap in comprehensive support systems for women, I decided to create Black Blossom Society to fill that void.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Certainly! My journey has been marked by numerous challenges, but it has also been a testament to resilience and determination. One of the most defining periods of my life was escaping a domestic violence marriage. Living in an abusive environment was incredibly tough, but I knew I had to leave for the sake of my own well-being and that of my children.
Raising my two children, whom I had at the ages of 14 and 19, while navigating such difficult circumstances, was no small feat. Despite the odds, I was determined to provide them with a safe, loving, and stable home. This drive pushed me to seek better opportunities and to rebuild my life from the ground up.
After leaving my abusive marriage, I made the courageous decision to go back to college. Balancing the responsibilities of being a single mother with my academic pursuits was challenging, but I was committed to improving our future. Education became a beacon of hope for me, and I worked tirelessly to succeed in my studies.
One of the proudest moments of my journey was being featured on Fox 5. This opportunity not only highlighted my story but also allowed me to share my message of resilience and empowerment with a broader audience. It was a moment of validation, demonstrating that no matter how tough life gets, it is possible to rise above adversity and achieve your goals.
These experiences have profoundly shaped who I am today and fueled my passion for helping others. They taught me the importance of resilience, determination, and the power of support systems. At Black Blossom Society, I strive to offer that same support to women who are facing their own challenges, helping them to navigate their journeys with strength and confidence.
To potential clients and followers, I want you to know that no matter where you start, you have the power to transform your life. My story is a testament to the fact that with determination, support, and a clear vision, you can overcome any obstacle. I am here to support you every step of the way, providing the tools and guidance needed to help you thrive.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Other than training and knowledge, I believe that empathy, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping others are the most crucial factors for succeeding in my field.
Empathy
Empathy allows you to truly understand and connect with your clients. It’s about listening to their stories, recognizing their struggles, and validating their feelings. An empathetic approach builds trust and rapport, making clients feel safe and supported, which is essential for effective coaching and advocacy.
Resilience
The ability to navigate and overcome challenges is vital. In my journey, I faced significant obstacles, including a domestic violence marriage and raising two children at a young age. These experiences taught me resilience, which is essential when guiding others through their own difficulties. Resilience helps you stay motivated and maintain a positive outlook, even when faced with setbacks.
Passion
A genuine passion for helping others is the driving force behind successful coaching. This passion fuels your commitment to your clients and keeps you dedicated to their growth and success. It’s what motivates you to go above and beyond, continually seek improvement, and inspire those you work with.
Authenticity
Being authentic and true to yourself helps build genuine connections with clients. When clients see that you are sincere and committed to your work, they are more likely to engage fully and trust the process. Authenticity also means sharing your own experiences and lessons learned, which can be incredibly powerful and inspiring for clients.
Adaptability
Each client is unique, and their needs and circumstances can vary widely. Being adaptable and flexible in your approach ensures that you can provide personalized support that effectively addresses each client’s specific challenges and goals. This adaptability allows you to meet clients where they are and help them move forward in the most beneficial way.
Strong Support Network
Having a strong support network is invaluable. This includes mentors, colleagues, and professional networks that provide guidance, feedback, and encouragement. A support network can also offer different perspectives and resources, enhancing your ability to serve your clients effectively.
