We recently connected with Sarah Boothe and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sarah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Back in 2020, the whole world was terrified, myself and my family included. I hadn’t finished school, my fiance had been laid off and it seemed that the end of the world was near every time we turned on the TV. The world was living in panic. Eventually, I realized that watching the news was not making my life any better, so I started looking for spiritual literature, I wanted to learn more about my mother, who passed away by her own hand in 2009. I was 16 years old at the time, she taught me so many things about spiritualism and self-love. It took me over a decade to realize that she was pagan. I put the puzzle pieces together and hadn’t found any sense of belonging in other religions, so I decided to try to follow, spiritually, in my mother’s footsteps. This adventure began amidst the 2020 Covid Pandemic and I can say with the utmost certainty that I would not have survived that year without these new spiritual outlooks on the world.
For the first time in my life, I felt calm, and in control of my emotions. I have spent my entire life suffering from anxiety, grief, self-doubt, and self-hatred, and for the first time, I felt that everything was going to be okay, even during the pandemic. I wanted to find a way to share this feeling and this knowledge with the world, I wanted to give something to people that may help them the way that my mom, even long after her passing, helped me. So I began to look into manifestation and combined with my candle-making experience I realized that I wanted to devote my time and efforts to create a business that would allow me and my daughter to have financial freedom, give me the time to spend with her, and not a job that may or may not fire me at any moment. I want everyone to have that. I want everyone to have the opportunity to live their life without being shackled to our own negative self-talk and the negativity of the world. Everyone has magic within them, but not everyone tries to access it. It’s inside of all of us. And that’s why I believe that this business adventure, whether it succeeds or fails, will always be worth my time and efforts, because at this point, I have already spread my message to others, and if I can continue to do that, then I am doing what I was put here to do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a licensed aesthetician and laser technician. I chose to begin candle-making because it was soothing and helped ease my own anxiety. I wanted to create a brand that IS everything that I love, everything that brings me peace, in the hopes that my brand or website would be stumbled upon one day by someone who was just as desperate as I was for help, to find why they should continue breathing. That may be an easy answer for some people, but for others, it’s not so easy. So I created a brand dedicated to helping you find peace. I created, Eclipse Botanica, to carry my own handmade coconut wax manifestation candles, skull wax melts, and ritual herbal bath soak (because oh, boy do I love to do my rituals in the bath) and I plan to also create very in-depth goal-oriented weekly/monthly planners, yoga attire and yoga mats, more cleansing products such as room sprays and smudge sticks, and of course because I am an aesthetician, skincare! The thing that I am most proud of when I think about my brand is that I did all of this myself, from absolutely nothing. I built this without the financial help of a bank or family, and I have done all of the work myself, every little detail.
I guess if I had to choose one thing that I would want people to know about Eclipse Botanica is that, it’s not a candle business, it’s not really a business at all. Its a mother, on a spiritual journey, who wants you to begin a journey of your own, and that Eclipse Botanica will be there for you when/if you need a friend 🤍

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started with using an old Instagram account that had previously been used for makeup tutorials, lol. I pivoted my type of content and then I created a youtube channel. This wasn’t easy, it’s taken so much of my time, and so far, I only have about 1700 subscribers, which isn’t much, but that’s 1700 people that hit subscribe on my channel and want to see more. My channel is about candle-making, so I do think that it may be smart to create your social media accounts to be directed at your target client base, rather than other crafters or creators. That’s where I actually made a mistake. Also, TikTok is huge right now, so learn it, use it and IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE PERFECT TO POST IT. Same goes for Youtube and Instagram 🤍

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Vendor shows, really honestly in-person sales have been the biggest thing for me. Don’t forget that you have a huge market in your hometown so when you do post on social media, make sure to use your Hashtags to get your stuff in front of people from your town! When someone sees a reel or a TikTok and realizes that “Oh, this small business is right here in town!” the likelihood of them making a purchase from you just shot WAY up.
