Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nishit Gupta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nishit, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
My love of the arts and design began as child in a household of engineers and designers. From the age of six, I became devoted to visual arts with a special passion for drawing. My dedication to doodling and sketching in my notebook during school and at home, at all times won me notice from teachers and peers, who motivated me to pursue my passion through middle school and into high school. I frequently participated in art events and competitions to test my skills and learn more about arts and design fields. As I grew older and continued reading about influential artists and engineering inventions, I realized that along with design I was deeply interested in technology and computers. Very early on I set a life goal to invent something that would benefit people globally and commenced a path that was a mixture of both the creative and the technical, which led me to Industrial Design.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an award-winning Industrial Designer, currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m working with The Coca-Cola Company, within the Equipment Innovation and Global Design teams, designing the future of Coca-Cola’s beverage equipment on a global scale. In the past I’ve worked with many international companies and clients such as HP, Kohler, Adidas, Under Armour, etc. I went to ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, where I earned a Bachelors of Science with Honors in Product Design.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Alongside my full-time job, I work as a part-time design consultant for my own creative design studio. Currently, I handle a variety of design projects including apparel design, graphic design, visual communication, CAD design, and product design for multiple clients. My plan for the future is to expand this creative studio, collaborating with like-minded creatives to create exceptional, thoughtful products. Drawing from my extensive product design experience, my ultimate goal is to launch a brand specializing in designing and selling practical home products such as furniture, kitchenware, smoking accessories, and other functional home accessories.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I cannot point to a single source. Design Inspiration can come from multiple sources. It can be found by visiting museums, or during an evening city walk. It can present itself in existing consumer products or in a mechanical industrial tool. Things like reading, playing sports, or doing your favorite activity can also get the creative juices flowing. A designer should constantly look for inspiration, building a visual vocabulary to pull from. This visual vocabulary can exist in many forms. It could be a CMF library, collection of product catalog, images, music, mental notes, etc. To stay inspired I maintain a visual vocabulary. And to keep coming up with creative ideas, I keep an open mind, always ask why, and be prepared to utilize my visual vocabulary to solve design problems.
