We recently connected with Kiaya Sinclair and have shared our conversation below.
Kiaya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
When I first started out in my business, I was working full time as an Order Management Specialist for a national metal roofing company. I had been with the company for 5 years and wanted something to change. After the pandemic, it was clear to me that working from home and not in an office was where I was meant to be. I wanted to work for myself, on my own terms, and build my dream, not someone else’s.
I started my business by investing in a course with Micala Quinn. This course was recommended to me by a friend and was by far the very BEST investment I’ve ever made in my business to date. Her course came with a job board for business owners looking for help to post opportunities and positions available. When I was ready to jump in and give it my all as a Social Media Manager on my own, I created a portfolio and started applying to relevant job opportunities and inquiries from this job board. After several discovery calls, and applications, I booked my very first client!
My client base has evolved so much since that first client booking. My services are different, who and how I serve my clients are different, but I will never forget that very first “YES” from a business owner taking a chance on me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As I mentioned, I have an extensive background in customer service in the corporate world. Once the pandemic hit, I had the luxury of working from home and enjoying all that comes with it – seeing my kids more, taking care of my home, living life slower. After offices started opening back up, I was being forced to go back into an office. This was THE turning point for me as an entrepreneur. I enjoyed working from home, taking life a bit slower, and being able to create a work/life balance on my terms. At this point, I invested in Micala Quinn’s Live Free Academy course and never looked back.
I’ve been in business on my own as a Social Media Manager, turned Social Media Marketer + Strategist for a little over 2 years now. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner. Living life helping other business owners, serving others with good intention and integrity, and providing a service that is valuable to others is the core of what I do…and I’m so dang proud of it!
Currently, I work with DFY (done for you) service providers that need their time back. This can look a few different ways – (1) a business owner that does not enjoy social media but understands social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. are a free marketing resource to grow their business, (2) a service provider that hates content creation and does not want to develop this part of their business, or (3) a DFY service provider that wears all the hats, and just wants their time back to focus on their business strengths and passions. My clients love the fact that they can hand over their business vision and mission to me and I can create a sustainable, growth strategy for social media marketing where they see growth, leads, and active engagement without being tied down to social media day in and day out.
In today’s online space, it’s tough to find the perfect match for your business, for whatever services you may be looking for. I operate from a place of good intention, integrity, and quality work ethic where I actually care more about the success of YOUR business and YOU than anything else. I believe this sets me apart from others who are sales driven, or in it for the follower count. While follower count is great, genuine connection and supporting others in the online space is why I started this business and it will be while I continue this business for as long as I can.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media Marketing is one of the hardest topics to discuss because it varies with each person and industry! However, it’s my passion so here we go…
If you are just starting out as a business on social media platforms such as Instagram, here are a few of my best tips:
(1) Optimize your bio so that you can be found easier
(2) Nail down your target audience to 1 person. Get so descriptive and know them like your best friend. Then, create content that speaks to that ONE person. I promise, this type of content will guide you on a path of success.
(3) Engage on social media like a human being – through stories, commenting on your feed, and in direct messages. These genuine connections will lead to sales, follower growth, and word of mouth referrals.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The best strategy for growing clientele as a DFY (done for you) Service Provider is consistency in reaching out to new businesses. I feel that the connection piece gets lost by so many either from a place of fear, or lack of discipline. Continue the reach out to new businesses that fit your ideal client and see the world of opportunity open up for you as a service provider.
