We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sascha Richardson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sascha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have to say my Moon St. Project has been the most important project for me. It was my “growing up” project. Since it took me four years to complete- I really started it as a teenager, and finished it as a woman. I wrote it after a really tough time in my life when I lost all my friends after a falling out with my best friend. I put myself together piece by piece with every song I wrote, and I don’t know if it was the time passing, or the writing that helped me, but when I wrapped the project: I was finally whole again.

Sascha , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sascha, and I am a Swedish-American musician. I write pop and R&B music inspired by my life and I strive to let my music speak louder than I ever could with my bare words. Music is therapy, and I want my songs to do something for the people listening, whether it heals something or affirms someone, I make music that makes people feel. I mix Swedish music with the American sound, and they live happily together in my music.
I’m most proud of my willingness to put myself out there. Anytime you release something into the world, you subject yourself to criticism from anyone and everyone. When it is something that is very personal to you, it suddenly becomes such a sensitive subject. With this album being so true to what happened to me during one of the worst times in my life, I was very nervous to release it. Just letting go, and letting the world hear something so raw, is scary but also so very freeing. I want potential fans to know that I will always write it exactly how it is. No matter how personal the topic, or how hard the situation is, no matter what, I will always share everything. Not only that, but I’m hilarious, an amazing performer, sexy, and very humble. (Sarcasm!)

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When someone tells me the music has gotten them through a tough time. Truth be told though, nothing beats writing a good song. When you struggle with a concept or melody or lyric, and finally get it, THAT is unbeatable. It feels like you’re cracking an impossible math problem (and for me, that’s as close to doing that as I ever will be).

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I used to do YouTube when I was younger! Since then, my audience has followed and grown with me. There is something very special about the connection we have, from having followed each other through every stage of life. My advice to someone just starting out on social media is to stick with it, even when it feels like it will never happen. If you want something badly enough, you can never wait too long for it!
