We recently connected with Jos Azuriz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jos , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on has actually been the project I’m currently working on. Since September, I’ve been working on writing, recording, and producing my debut EP, ‘Lucy’. Dating nowadays, especially in New York City, feels like a never-ending battle that you’re never going to win. Lucy shares my personal experiences and perspectives on what it’s like to put yourself out there and the aftermath of falling hard for people who probably aren’t good for you in the long run. Each track takes the listener through a different stage of the fallout.
First, pain and resentment. The most relatable pain for girls trying to date in their twenties is dumb guys standing them up. “evil eye” is about taking that power back after being hurt by someone you cared about deeply. Karma’s a bitch and she’s from his town.
Second, longing. The title track, “Lucy,” is about seeing your old person everywhere, even when they’re nowhere to be found. It’s hard to get over people, especially when thinking about what was and what could have been consumes your mind.
Third, is arguably my most favorite track on the EP, “PINK ELFBAR,” is about infatuation. Having a crush is one of the most intense and euphoric experiences… just like hitting a vape. It’s exciting, releasing dopamine constantly and leaving you wanting more.
Lastly, grief. I’d like to think that crying on your shower floor is a universal experience for most gals out there. “in my bathtub,” is about that release. It’s hard to let go of such beautiful memories, regardless of how long the delusionship lasts.
I’ve been writing for myself and others for quite a while, so it’s beyond exciting for me to be finally putting my own songs out there for people to enjoy.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jos Azuriz! I’m a New York City based artist, singer/songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. I play keyboard and do the occasional backing vocals for vocalists and bands in the city, as well as work on my own artist project.
I’m gearing up to release my debut EP entitled Lucy, which will be released Fall 2024. Showcasing my candid truths about affection and attachment, mixed with alternative pop sounds and unique metaphors giving audiences a hard look into love, loss and modern relationships.
This is my first time releasing anything under my own artist name and I’ve been working hard, alongside my co-writers and producers, to make sure this project showcases everything that I am at this point in my career. My wonderful friends, Bri Suarez and Ang… (who are artists themselves) are featured songwriters on a few songs, one in particular that we are beyond excited to share with everyone.
I recently made my New York Songwriters Circle debut, alongside some absolutely incredible songwriters, and am currently in London working on my next project, as well as planning some upcoming performances.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is crucial in the entertainment industry. This industry will chew you up and spit you right back out in a heartbeat. The biggest hurdle I’ve had to jump through was moving to New York and away from home to pursue my dreams. I grew up in a small town in Georgia, where music wasn’t necessarily an option. I knew I wanted to be somewhere where I could make music happen. I pushed through all of the negativity I faced about a future in music with a smile on my face and now I’m here making it happen.
Moving somewhere new, especially a new city, is so much harder than people make it out to be. New York City has such high highs and low lows – and if you don’t know anyone, you experience a loneliness like no other while you’re getting on your feet. Withstanding the loneliness, the highs and lows, and everything in between is what shaped me into the artist that I am today.
There are always going to be circumstances that drag you down or make you feel like you’re moving in the wrong direction. Finding the good in each situation is what will keep you afloat, no matter what comes your way. I jumped over the hurdles and shaped my experiences into my art!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
All of it.
From having a small idea that turns into words on a page, then having those words come to life as the song that I was hearing in my head is magical. Being able to hear my thoughts out loud and share them is the most surreal experience. And getting to share them live, so others can hear and relate to my experiences is the most fulfilling thing I could ever ask for. Watching audiences engage with my words and seeing how it affects them is a rush like no other.
I’m so fortunate to be able to have my creative ideas come to life and that I have the opportunity to share them with others. And I’m beyond excited for what’s to come.
