We were lucky to catch up with Yifei Hou recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yifei thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
My current internship is remote work. First of all, thanks to my friend and my boss for giving me this opportunity. Because I am a concept artist and illustrator in the team, creating products is my main task in the team, so I usually just create concepts and illustrations for characters and environment, after my boss reviews, after the whole team reviews and feedback, I can work next tasks. the non-obvious benefit, is probably I don’t know my teammates so well, I rarely contact them often, usually just talking with them during team meetings. That lakes me frustrated.

Yifei, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello folks, I am Yifei, a concept artist and illustrator in Savannah College of Art and Design with MFA illustration program now, mainly focusing on game art and game illustration with stylized, anime style and realism style. Specializing in character design, environment art, and fantasy illustrations.
I got into this field for two reasons, first of all, I love drawing, and drawing as my main hobby since I was 3, although I walked lots of wrong paths in my art career until now, I finally found a path that fits me well. I have an almost unlimited passion on drawing. Second is that I am a game player, but especially love concepts, game art, and background settings behind the whole game, and these arts can ignite my passion to know more and study more, to create a whole background and complete a series game art for industry is my current dream.
About my current work, due to some NDA policy, I can’t show all of my work, but please check my LinkedIn, Instagram, Artstation or my portfolio website, these publish work I can show it to the public.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an artist and illustrator, achieving clients’ imagine, making their minds the truth, and showing them to reality are the most rewarding aspects, and also this is the artist and illustrator’s job. I believe artists have dignity, but if the dignity can’t help the industry to achieve its goal or reach the target, the rewarding aspect is useless

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
To be honest, I don’t know a lot about NFT, but some scam happened to me, asked me to buy artwork as their NFT, so in my view, NFT is not a good word for me, at least I won’t touch NFT even in the future.
