We were lucky to catch up with Ramiro Torres recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ramiro, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m 1000% happier doing what I do. Even before I knew I wanted to be a Radio personality, I knew that I DIDN’T want a regular job.
Growing up, all I saw was people that worked 9-5 jobs. None of them seemed excited to go to work. They all just wanted to basically get it over with. So they were wishing 40 hrs of their week away. Add to that the time they spent dreading going to work, being stuck in traffic on the way in and back home, and sleeping, and you’re looking at 75% of your day!
So, even before I knew there was something else out there, I knew I didn’t want what I experienced.

Ramiro, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Currently I’m on HOT 96-9 in Boston. I’ve been a morning radio personality in Boston for 23 years and on the radio for almost 30.
I’m also the ring announcer for Combat FC, an MMA promotion.
And I just started a podcast I call The Passion Project where I talk to successful people across all different industries about their journey pursuing their passion.
I guess that I’m most proud of the fact that I really love everything I’m currently doing.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’m a big fan of Malcolm Gladwell and really enjoy all of his books, but Outliers is the one I would recommend people read the most.
It basically demonstrates how no one is just born great at what they do. It takes time, consistency and discipline. It’s the 10,000 hour rule.
I really enjoy watching Ted Talks too.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Well, I think it goes both ways.
A non-creative probably enjoys the stability of their job and the consistency of knowing what they’re getting day to day. My perspective on that is basically that I would get bored and be unhappy overall.
I love that I’m not sure what my day will bring and that I get a say in how it goes.
I wake up excited every day because of that. But a non-creative person might have a different perspective than me.
The people I feel bad for are the creatives who never pursued their passion for whatever reason, and are working non-creative jobs.
