We recently connected with David Robles and have shared our conversation below.
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Always i like music. Since i know i like to imitated artist. Chayanne was one of them. Also i like to sing and play instrument. When i see a band playing live, my mind fly away. All I was singing in my house, in the school and any place. I remember that my family they told me to shut up, because i sing so loud. When i was in my first year of university, my best friend died the day of my birthday. His family decide to help me with the univerity and other things, like the know that i like to sing in a band. And they did it. I start to sing. Next year i participate in a band named Brisa Tropical . Jorge de Jesus Laboy was my mentor, my teacher and teach me how to sing, act, host , to sing diferent kind of music and how to work with diferent public.
then i did my own band Grupo Tempo. Then i was one of the singer of Grupo Karis, where i record two productions. In the last one, i sing one song from Pedro Capo(60 segundos) in merengue. When i was in Karis, one day i sing one song for my princess Valentina, I wrote some chorus to her and i sing them. But one day, i said to my wife Michelle Medina: Why y dont sing form all the kids of Puerto Rico and the world? The ohter day, when i was leaving Valentina at school, i said to the teacher , if i can performance a kids character in the field day. She told me, i can give you , 10 to 15 minutes, no more than that..
Belevied or not, when i offer to performance in the fiel day, i dont have alreary one complete song, no costume no nothing.
since that day i can sleep, the muse arreive to my mind and i start to work with the costume, the name, the songs, the libretto, how im going to performance, what was going to be. 24 days later that i spoke to the teacher, i did my first presentation like NINO Y SU MUNDO MUSICAL. Like we said ….the rest its history.
David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always be a responsible person. Since i start in the music industry, i put more effort to be, the most resonsible person that you ever work, that how i sale to my clients. I start by telling you that the responsability its first. The next thing its passion. You need to love that you do. When i finish my presentation, always some people approaches me and the said: you love what yo do right? Because i can feel it. And thats the point. The people need to believe in your work and believe how yo do it. Another thing that i did, its offer somenthing totaly diferent from the same shows that every know. I take off the road and create a uniqe show, no other have it. That leave me to said to the client: i offer you something diferent, educative and funny for all the present in the activity, no only the kids, for all the people present. All me crew have uniforms and do everything profesional. If the activity its for on person, i did the same show like i have 1,500 persons front of me. You can give less because its one person. No definily NO. Always do your best for the respect of the client and the present. If you are not going to do it right, dont do it.
Always be profesional, since the start to the end.
Another thing it, always i was prepare for the worst escenario. I have sound backups, utility backups, and backups for everything that i need.
NINO y SU MUNDO MUSICAL its a kids character that promove the protection to the Planet Earth, a healthy life and the values.
All the things trough the music. In my show i have utility. I use the music, marionets, and other stuff to catch the attention of the kids and their parents. I dance, sing, act, i do comedy and send positive massages to all present, but i did it in a diferent way . leaving my seed for the society. Its a dinamic and iteractive show. the kids performance with me, building thier self-confidence.
Many, many kids tall me at the end of the show, that they wishes tha i was his dad. Then that, you realize how important was my presentation and indicate that the show that i present its full of emotions, happpines, teachings, and values.
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes…definily. I want to be and international kids character and the best show for the familiys around the world.. Iwant to be the voice for the kids and the people need help.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When you do your yob, and some body like a kid, teacher ,father, mother and any one comes up and tell you….wao its a unique show, its the best show i ever seen, i never seen anything like this, can i give you a hug, can you be my father, please dont go, i know that you love this and performance with your soul and heart , thats the most rewarding aspect of being an artist.
