We recently connected with Linda Vasquez and have shared our conversation below.
Linda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I am a self taught artist. I learned thru practice, observation and some schooling. Knowing what I know now, I would have put motherhood on hold a few years to pursue more art education and practice.
The skill most essential I think is the basics, with that I can branch off to so many different mediums of creating.
My obstacles have been self limiting believes and the responsibility to family
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my art journey in my 20s. I took an interest in drawing and practiced by observing a family member that was an artist. I practiced by copying other art work then when I felt comfortable in techniques I started drawing my own artwork. I started picking up paint and painted murals in my home, then transition to canvas. I kept my practice up as much as possible, taking as many art classes as i could at local community colleges. My art moslty expresses the feminine energy. The connection with Earth as how both have been mistreated and suppressed. As I kept exploring different art mediums and expressions, my spiritual journey started to bloom as well. I’ve become a energy healer in the process and have a wonderful space where I offer powerful healing experiences for my clients. As I keep evolving in my journey it has come to the beginning of another exciting road. I am joining my art and my spirituality and preparing myself to offer ceremonial, spiritual tattooing. I am very excited to merge the two and provide a unique experience that allows the receiver of the tattoos to connect in a deeper level to the Markings and the moment in time in which then receive them. All the skills and knowledge I have collected thru out the years and the guidance from my heart have brought me to this point.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have faced many life obstacles in my journey, from the challenges of raising children, life changes, and family loss, I have kept pushing myself to continue on this journey. It brings me peace and fullfillment in myslef more than anything else. Art is healing to me. It has helped with stress, heartache, depression and anxiety.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is sharing and impacting others. My children have also taken a creative journey and I am very happy they have an avenue to express themselves creatively. I enjoy impacting others with my art expressions and seeing the parts of their being it touches. Sometimes shifting something inside of them that has been hidden or dormant.
