We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gaia Balbi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Gaia, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My life was forever changed when my beloved father was diagnosed with incurable cancer. Although I was a certified yoga teacher, I couldn’t find peace. Life became more complex, filled with despair and sorrow. My journey wasn’t easy until that point. I grew up in Peru during the terrifying times of terrorism, lack, and fear. Even though I immigrated to the US at 21, alone, grieving multiple family members, and facing an abusive relationship, nothing prepared me for facing death.
My dad’s illness stopped me in my tracks and invited me to dive deep into my spiritual practices, not only to face my deepest fears and find peace within the challenges but also to learn how to BE present for someone you love. Without knowing, my dad was the first one I was a doula for. He was the first soul I supported through life’s most significant transitions. He taught me that living fully before dying is what we are here for. He reminded me that dying in peace is what we deserve and our birthright. He gave me the precious gift of knowing that we are not our bodies, thoughts, emotions, feelings, or what happened to us. We are conscious energy. As Albert Einstein proved, energy “…cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed.”
As I supported my dad’s journey, I began a deeper exploration of the wisdom of Yoga beyond the physical aspects. I became a Master Teacher of Yoga and Meditation, and through my meditation practice, I surrendered to the channeling and mediumship abilities I first experienced as a child. After my father passed, I felt called to go back to my roots, and I embraced the healing practices of my native Peru and became a Shamanic Practitioner. My exploration of energy led me to study and practice different energy healing modalities, later becoming a certified Reiki Master. Curiosity continued as I sought to understand my conditioning and modern Western ways. I studied at the University of Vermont and became a Grief and End of Life Doula.
After years of witnessing collective suffering and honoring self-realization, my Dharma (my purpose) is clear. I am equipped with practices and teaching tools to support other souls as they bravely navigate their inner suffering, heal, evolve, and ultimately discover their eternal nature of love.
My mission is to provide support as people navigate life’s challenges so they can use their journey to discover their true selves and experience a fulfilling life.
Gaia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As an intuitive and holistic Healing Guide, I am here to support you through life’s challenges and help you transform your wounds into wisdom and your pain into a pathway to love. My name is Gaia, and I have personally experienced the healing power of spirituality. I wish to share it with you.
I discovered my calling of helping individuals through difficult times and transitions while going through my own soul-healing journey. During my darkest moments of grief and sorrow, I felt like my life was unbearable and even prayed for it to end. However, a voice within me persistently whispered, “There is another way.” I knew that despite what the world around me was saying, I could process, heal, and transcend my pain.
My personal experiences, eagerness to find peace, and desire to help others have led me to study, practice, and embody various wisdom traditions worldwide, equipping me with tangible tools to support healing from grief, trauma, and personal growth.
If you’re dealing with loss, heartbreak, end of life, or any other difficulty, I will guide you through your healing journey and provide you with time-tested tools and spiritual practices.
My offerings include: Spiritual Readings, Energy Healing, Grief and End of Life Support, International Spiritual Retreats, Ceremonies, and Rituals.
What sets me apart is that I only teach from my own practice and embodiment. Though our stories may differ, the root cause of our suffering is the same: forgetting who we are. I have experienced profound transformation and fulfillment and am here to help you do the same.
You don’t have to face your struggles alone. If you’re ready to transcend them, I will walk alongside you and provide support and guidance every step of the way. My intention is to help you discover the power of spiritual healing to overcome life’s obstacles and find inner peace.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
As a business owner, word of mouth has been my best source of new clients and students. Satisfied clients and students have been sharing their positive experiences with others, which has resulted in a steady stream of new clients coming my way. I believe that word of mouth is the most effective form of advertising because it comes from a trusted source and carries more weight than any advertisement or promotion. Additionally, it’s a testament to the quality of service and support I provide and the level of satisfaction my clients experience. I’m grateful for the support of my clients and students and their willingness to recommend me to others who are suffering or struggling with life.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the lessons I had to unlearn was that I cannot be a magic pill for people seeking healing and transformation. I used to approach my clients with the mindset that I could fix their problems, which often resulted in disappointment and frustration on both ends. It took me some time to realize that nobody needs fixing; the only way for true healing and transformation to occur is if the person seeking help is willing to put in the work and make the necessary changes in their life.
I learned that not everyone is ready for change, and it’s okay. As a healing guide, I have to be upfront with new clients and explain that we can only work together if they are willing to take the necessary steps toward healing. Setting realistic expectations and being honest about what we can and cannot do is essential.
Ultimately, my success as a spiritual business owner depends on my client’s success stories. It’s not about helping as many people as possible but rather about helping those who are truly ready and committed to changing their lives.
