We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victoria Byler, Licensed Therapist, a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Victoria, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Opening my own private practice, Revive Counseling LLC, wasn’t just a calculated move, it was a leap of faith. Sure, I planned meticulously, leveraging my experience in community mental health and group settings. But there was still an undeniable vulnerability in leaving the familiar structure behind.
This journey has been a crash course in everything but therapy! (Although let’s be honest, sometimes the lessons learned from marketing and social media apply to therapy too!) Networking, taking seasoned advice, and diving headfirst into website design and social media creation became my new normal. I’ve embraced the inevitable mistakes along the way, seeing them as stepping stones, not roadblocks.
Perhaps that’s the key difference – I view risks as experiments. Maybe something won’t work perfectly on the first try, but the knowledge gained is invaluable. And hey, if it turns out website building isn’t my hidden talent, I can always pivot and focus on what I do best: helping my clients.
Opening my own practice has been a wild ride, a constant learning curve, and ultimately, incredibly rewarding. I wouldn’t trade the growth and independence for anything.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Victoria Byler, LPCC owner of Revive Counseling LLC, with a deep passion for mental health, I am dedicated to helping men & busy parents become their most authentic selves, overcoming trauma, emotional distress, and the stresses of daily life. Over the past seven years, I have practiced in diverse settings, working with clients of all ages.
I offer one-on-one virtual therapy services to help clients heal and find inner peace. What sets me apart is my unique ability to “read between the lines” and tackle the root issues. With a strength in achieving positive outcomes, I teach tools and help clients explore the deep thoughts and emotions that hold them back.
I specialize in EMDR, expressive arts, and somatic approaches. My current focus is on assisting men, busy parents, and those who are emotionally wounded to heal from trauma, anxiety, and anger. I am most proud of my ability to do this work and honored to work with each client—past, present, and future. I want my clients to know that I work for them, support them and will guide them every step of the way.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Success in this field isn’t easily quantified. For me, it lies in consistently doing my best, being open to feedback, and remaining flexible to change and growth. True success is found in personal and professional development, as well as the experiences gained along the way.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
