We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christopher Malunga. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christopher below.
Christopher, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
YES, I’m more than happier as an artist or creative because am doing me. I love to do me which is doing what I love the must and that is music. Of course as a music artist(upcoming artist) there times you feel like oh maybe I should just be like everyone else and find a job. And that thought comes in when you having some financial hardship and you are finding it hard to support your music and also having pressure from family needing your financial assistance. But as for me I once had that thought of maybe just have a regular job when some people around me started telling me that I will never make it in music cause of style; some Said I suck in music etc ; I should just find a regular job what what! So I had that pressure of just stopping my music career and find a regular job. And that pressure is still there but the only different now and then is I know how to deal with that…. Music is me , am music so nothing can separate me from that.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Oh If you hearing about me for the first *Archangell* is my name, Am a music artist, a Rapper, Singer & songwriter based out in Mufulira City, Zambia, Southern Africa.
Am more into hip-hop, RnB/Pop & Afro pop. I have a unique style which set me apart from everyone, I’m sure if you listen to my music you will testify that & be interested to listen to more of my music.
I’m more focused on real issues either love or true life story. Mostly I just wanna tell my story through music, if you listen to one of my songs like SO COLD or DON’T FORGET ME ;I went too personal in these songs not just these two songs there more, I tell stories in my music which are very interesting to listen to; let’s say about love when you listen to songs like “I DON’T” most of you can relate to that especially us young once who are pursuing our careers & also want to be in relationships, sometimes you find hard to maintain these two. You can go listen to my music it’s all out there on all streaming platforms and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. ARCHANGELL that’s my name!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a musician here in my country it’s not an easy thing. Why do I say so? Here there’s what we call Zambian music and what that means is if you want to be known or be successful as an artist here you have to do Zambian music. I’m sure you have questions like what is that Zambian music LoL. Okay here is the thing Zambian Music is done in our local language which in most cases is Bemba & Nyanja. Even though we have over 73 languages here in my country but these are two dominant ones; there’s also Tonga Language which is coming up strong in the recent years(S/O to King Illest for this progress).. So which means if you do your music in English you’re not going to receive any support from established artists or even most Zambian Music Lovers . You’re on your own, they even stop addressing you as Zambian. So for me when I started my music career I chose to do it differently which is doing my music in English and for that I got a nick name of “American” which is funny lol. Why I chose this step it’s because I want to be different, I want to make it easy even for global world people to understand what I’m communicating and do what others are saying it’s impossible cause I believe there’s nothing impossible if you believe and put in a work. Though I’m not yet there but I’ve seen the big change and progress people have starts accepting my music here and most importantly I’m receiving much recognition from the outside. So yeah it’s tough but I’m getting better and there.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my opinion I think the society is doing incredibly well in supporting artists or creatives.
