We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Romy Sorensen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Romy below.
Romy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
An 8lb blonde baby was born in Golden, CO on 8/20/1980. Life would soon take an unexpected twist, but I feel would be the main reason why I am who I am today. I am half Dutch and half Canadian which provides strong personality traits that would carry me through life no doubt!
My father was in a skiing accident that would leave him with a permanent brain injury and anger to spare that would change the course of my life forever. My mother was forced to take over the “breadwinner” role and utilized her mathematics degree to prove her resilience and work ethic despite hard times. I am proud to come from a line of hardworking women including a world-famous wood carving Dutch grandmother. I was newly married at 21 when I applied for a PT telemarketing position. I quickly got promoted to “manager of the phone room” where I would delight my employees with what my boss always joked about as “screaming” but was me singing to a tape of Mariah Carey Hero! That will come into play later.
The owner stated that he was putting this company up for sale and I quickly asked “What do I have to do to purchase it?”. I learned all positions at the company including in-home sales (totally out of my comfort zone), business accounting, and marketing and even attended a crash course business school in Cleveland, OH. I was now the proud owner of Air Doctors. I didn’t realize at the time but the foundation of skills I acquired would be part of the reason I would go on to own 2 more successful companies in the future. After repetitive health problems due to stress, I sold Air Doctors after 5 years. At the age of 26, I decided to apply to be a receptionist and give my mind and body a break while still contributing and let’s be honest I can’t sit still!
While sitting at my desk one day I remember thinking, “What business do I want to open next?” I pondered on this for a bit and came up with this..I want to do something active, make good money, make my own hours, and once again be my own boss. After my father’s accident, us 3 children helped my mom clean houses for money, a skill I would most definitely utilize later but despised at the time. I decided to print out cleaning flyers and put them on the doors of my neighbors (keep in mind social media was not like it is today). Within a month I was putting in my 2 weeks because I had replaced my current income. I was cleaning and getting referrals and soon hitting my goal of $1000 per week.
One of my most successful clients tried to convince me I needed to be on social media and grow this company larger. I despise social media because I am very private and “old school” and also I wasn’t sure if I wanted to handle all the headaches that being an employer brings. I also admired her as a very successful business woman so I finally complied. To this day I could never repay her for believing in me and encouraging me to step into my full potential. I also thank my mother for showing me skills that would be so priceless to my future.
I grew Romy’s Cleaning Service to a multi-six-figure income. After 12 years at 38 years old, I sold my second company. Selling this business was a lot more emotional than the first. No amount of income substitutes great mental health so I made a very hard choice. I went through a difficult unexpected divorce and could no longer be mentally present for myself or the business at the time. I found a broker and was very humbled and surprised that I had built an asset so incredible to sell. I spent time healing with my bulldogs and figuring out my next steps in life and love.
People would often ask “What is next for Romy”? I always answered the same way “To drink a full cup of coffee while it’s still hot”. At the time and hustling since 21 with 2 businesses, I was in no hurry to get back to work. After 2 years of no alarm clock or to-do’s and realizing it was only fun to be “retired” if I had people to hangout with, I started applying for jobs again to find MY purpose. I decided to settle for a purpose. I finally got hired as a receptionist after hearing “overqualified” more times than expected. After 1.5 years and clocking in/out for lunch breaks I once again was faced with “what business do I want to do open next?” My close circle of friends reminded me how often I talked about opening a juice company.
Going back once again to the beginning, my father’s accident would force us to move homes and even states a ton. I have so many funny and sad memories of childhood homes. I keep getting the question my whole life “Where is home for you?” I am still working on that answer. My father eventually left us to go be a truck driver and my mom decided moving to Oregon with my grandmother would be best. I remember so many beautiful traits about my grandmother but one of the most impactful was how much she cared about what she fueled her body with. She lived a long healthy life and she would attribute that to being active, good fats and lots of fruits and vegetables.
I found the book “Back To Eden” on her bookshelf and I knew at 16 I had just learned something so valuable. You really can heal your body with God’s Rainbow Garden! Fast forward to 40 years old and two businesses later and I founded Romy’s Juice Spa. It started with a logo that my friend spent endless hours perfecting to my liking. Then a T-shirt. Then retail locations that would sell our juice. Then a storefront. The third time was a charm….or was it? I will never forget the day that would test me and my company’s character indefinitely.
I had just put my bulldog to rest after paralysis from a sudden stroke. I was at my storefront the following day when 2 employees from the agriculture department made me cease all outside operations due to “non-pasteurizing”. Admittedly I was in shock. How could I have not known this law? Who would want to drink pasteurized juice with no nutrients? How would I survive financially after this huge of a hit? I spent 2 years building this business model and lost thousands of dollars in monthly revenue that day. I decided to asses what I still had and I still had a storefront to operate. Soon after that, the building where my store was located was sold to new owners who had a different business plan so I had to move out.
I remember sitting on my couch for a good part of 2 weeks, staring at my walls, unintentionally depriving myself of any nourishment, and reaching for my bulldog that was no longer in physical form. I was 43, no kids,1 living dog, a “failing”business and my ego was telling me the entrepreneurial skills I thought I had were an illusion and a thing of the past. After so many different failed avenues of this company, I did not know where to begin again. But was it a failure? My ego said yes but my hundreds of social media testimonials, my thousands of followers, the consistent flow of outside supporters that encouraged me to keep going, and the fact my company had been profitable since day one told me NO! One of my closest friends said, “You can’t give up…unless you want to”.
I will never forget how it felt in the hot summer months when the sun would glisten on my face while listening to reggae in my food truck! Yep…I bought a food truck! I founded Romy’s Juice Spa to help facilitate healing for cancer patients and human disease and I wasn’t about to give up yet! After 3 years and so many challenges, I’d realized how hard it is to sell health in a sugar-crazed world. I could get very wealthy selling a processed food item instead. Hell, I was jealous of the lines at other food trucks. I was faced with a moral dilemma. Stay on course and continue to make my 16-year-old self proud or become very wealthy by giving the public exactly what they want? I decided like with all my businesses, money will always be a secondary objective and I will continue on course as long as what my business does adds value to others.
I picture that innocent little blonde girl born in Golden who has gone on to be the school president, own 3 successful companies, sing professionally with bands, compete in Idol competitions and sing national anthems to thousands, raise 2 bulldogs, have the best group of close friends ever and to finally have found self love and resilience in the most unexpected experiences. She has experienced grief, loss and pain at unfathomable levels and often wondered if she would make it through. In that is where she found G.R.I.T and what she’s really made out of.
The only reason I am who and what I am today is God, Manifestation Principles and Angels sent to me in the form of breathing souls at the divine time to encourage HOPE. This above all is what I am most grateful for.
Romy’s Juice Spa was founded in 2021 as a “Spa For Your Gut”. We focus primarily on cold-pressed juice varieties for healing different bodily ailments, detoxing and cleansing, and assisting people with reaching their daily required fruit and vegetable intake goals.
We also added Fresh Couscous protein bowls for “Couscous n’ Juice”. We help people to boost their immune systems quickly, and obtain and maintain healthy goal weights along with better skin and anti-aging practices.
I hope in the future to do more educating than direct selling. To teach people how to incorporate real health in their homes for generations to come by adding more fruits and vegetables. Only time will tell what becomes but I hope more people start choosing a healthy alternative.

After 3 years and so many challenges,I’d realized how hard it is to sell health in a sugar-crazed world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Romy’s Juice Spa was founded in 2021 as a “Spa For Your Gut”. We focus primarily on cold-pressed juice varieties for healing different bodily ailments, detoxing and cleansing, and assisting people with reaching their daily required fruit and vegetable intake goals.
We also added Fresh Couscous protein bowls for “Couscous n’ Juice”. We help people to boost their immune systems quickly, and obtain and maintain healthy goal weights along with better skin and anti-aging practices.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I hope in the future to do more educating than direct selling. To teach people how to incorporate real health in their homes for generations to come by adding more fruits and vegetables. Only time will tell what becomes but I hope more people start choosing a healthy alternative.
