We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Paula Zumot a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What does it take to be successful? It’s a question that’s been pondered by many, and one that has been woven into the fabric of my own journey. Success, to me, is not just about monetary achievements, but rather, it’s about the relentless pursuit of one’s dreams and goals.
I’ve been fortunate to witness various forms of success throughout my life. Take my grandmother, for instance, who only had a 3rd-grade education. Despite her humble beginnings, she raised a family of 12 children while working tirelessly to provide for them. Her unwavering determination and resilience in the face of adversity embody true success in my eyes.
Similarly, my mother and father made the courageous decision to uproot their lives and move to America in search of better opportunities for our family. Despite facing numerous challenges along the way, they never wavered in their pursuit of a brighter future. Their sacrifices and perseverance serve as a testament to what it truly means to be successful.
Success, to me, is not confined to a single definition or set of achievements. It’s about the drive, the passion, and the willingness to pursue what you envision for your life. It’s about embracing challenges, learning from failures, and never losing sight of your goals.
As I reflect on my own journey, I’ve come to realize that success is not a destination, but rather, it’s a journey. It’s about embracing every moment, every setback, and every triumph along the way. And it’s about recognizing that true success lies not in the destination, but in the journey itself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a real estate broker with a story rooted in hard work, honesty, and a deep sense of partnership. For me, it’s about forging genuine connections and being a steadfast ally for my clients.
My journey into real estate wasn’t solely driven by the pursuit of success; it was about making a meaningful impact in people’s lives. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding families to their dream homes, assisting investors in uncovering promising opportunities, and witnessing the pure joy that comes with finding the perfect place to call home.
But beyond the transactions and paperwork, what truly fills me with pride are the relationships I’ve cultivated along the way. There’s an indescribable satisfaction in being a part of someone’s journey as they navigate the path to finding their place in the world.
From the outset, I approached this industry with an open heart and a determination to make a positive difference. And as I continue to walk this path, I remain committed to being not just a broker, but a trusted confidant, advocate, and partner for each and every client.
What am I most proud of? It’s not the accolades or the numbers—it’s the relationships I’ve built and the lives I’ve touched along the way, It’s an honor to play a role in helping others achieve their real estate dreams, and I approach each opportunity with sincerity, integrity, and a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In January 2024, a significant turning point in my career unfolded, marking the genesis of Zumot Realty, my very own brokerage. Departing from my previous Real Estate brokerage ignited a flurry of uncertainties and self-doubt. Questions like, “Am I truly prepared for this endeavor? Can I navigate the challenges ahead? Do I possess the financial stability to weather the storm? Am I making the right decision?” reverberated in my mind, threatening to overshadow my aspirations.
Amidst the tumult of doubts, I realized the power of perspective. Rather than succumbing to the “Am I’s,” I chose to embrace the “When I’s.” When I embark on this new venture, when I clench my inaugural deal under my own brokerage, when I commemorate my one-year milestone—these reframed questions became my beacon of hope, guiding me forward with renewed determination.
With unwavering resolve, I took the plunge and established Zumot Realty. While uncertainties may linger on the horizon, my unwavering conviction lies in a single question: “Why did I wait so long to believe in my dreams?” Armed with this newfound clarity, I am poised to navigate the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. This is my journey, and I am ready to embrace it wholeheartedly.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been leveraging my natural strengths and genuine desire to help people. When I started as a new real estate agent in 2018, I didn’t have the financial resources to invest in expensive lead generation programs. Instead, I focused on what I did have abundantly: myself.
I capitalized on my positive attitude and networking skills to connect with potential clients. Hosting numerous open houses provided me with valuable face-to-face interactions, which often translated into free leads. Through hard work and perseverance, I closed my first home sale within just three months of starting out.
That initial success snowballed into positive reviews and referrals from satisfied clients, further expanding my clientele. Even as I’ve progressed in my career and now have the resources to invest in paid programs, I still place immense value on personal connections.
Today, I continue to prioritize meeting new clients in natural settings. Whether it’s striking up a conversation at the grocery store, enjoying a day at the park with my son, or simply dining out, I seize every opportunity to connect and build relationships. By remaining present in the moment and embracing social interactions, I’ve found that the possibilities for expanding my clientele are endless.
