We were lucky to catch up with Huntly Plantz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Huntly, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Acting is a journey. When I first started, I remember being in a studio with my mom at 12 years old, and the acting coach asked us about my IMDb. My mom looked at me and asked, “What is an IMDb?” That was the moment we realized that we should definitely have one and that we had a lot more to learn.
Now, I look back on that day and see how I have grown. I also review my IMDb weekly to ensure everything is presentable and current.
Huntly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I remember the first day I went to my mom and discussed my interest in acting right before COVID hit. She has always been open to new ideas, so I knew she would listen with her full attention.
She was supportive, and we immediately started educating ourselves on becoming an actor. The most important advice is to surround yourself with positive support. There are bad days, and you need that support to remind you that you are talented and growing daily.
There are days when I have so much going on, and our agents email us great news. We have an audition!!
But then, you have to be organized enough to work on studying your scene, researching, and being ready to self-tape within a few days. This is one challenge of this industry. An opportunity can come at any time of the day, and you must be ready for it, no matter your other plans.
When COVID-19 hit in 2020, I decided to take a break. We had just started acting, but I was afraid of what was happening in the world and decided to focus on keeping my family and myself safe by minimizing contacts.
2023 rolled around, and life was somewhat back to normal again, so I spoke with my parents, and off we went with acting.
Since 2023, I have been so blessed to have been booked on numerous projects.
Two of them will hopefully premiere this year, and one in 2025.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
College is important to me. I would like to attend an institution that values hard work and resilience, and I know that acting successes will be something that the admissions department will think is important. I also hope to make it further in the industry and allow myself to act full-time and support myself through it, which will undoubtedly be challenging.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Your coach, when first starting, is so important.
We reached out to Matthew Belopavlovich, who at the time was the artistic director at the Patel Conservatory in Tampa, Florida—his guidance and caring about how I was growing kept a 12-year-old excited about the processes.
After about six months into training with Mr. Belopavlovic, he suggested we needed to go to the next level and had us reach out to Eugenie Bondurant. She has a strong acting career with roles such as “Tigris” in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2., The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga and Fear of Rain alongside Harry Connick Jr. and Madison Iseman. She has a full-time teaching studio called Station 12 Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida.
She has been our friend and coach since 2023, and we are so grateful for her!
