We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lisa Jacovsky. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lisa below.
Lisa , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
When I first adopted my two cats, I joined a cat-specific group on FB. It was there that I started reading posts by special needs rescues and fosters. I started following their pages and began to learn about these beautiful animals. I also learned just how expensive the medical needs could be. And how many emergencies can happen last minute due to the special needs of the little one. It made me realize how important these rescues are and how much work goes into not just running one but being there for these special little beings. Following the individual pages, I fell so in love with specific little ones. I even followed one that adopted when his adopted mom made him a FB page. It has been such a learning experience and a privilege to follow these rescues. With all of the medical costs, fundraisers for funds, and requests for help it made me realize how much these rescues and fosters are not given the same opportunities as those that are in the field of Autism. I decided rather than donate to an organization that supports autism, the real need would be in special needs fosters and rescues. I feel that donating a portion of proceeds from anything cat related monthly is more supportive and making more of a difference.

Lisa , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a passionate mission to raise awareness about special needs cats. I want to highlight not only the beauty and unique charm of these incredible animals but also how silly, adorable, and fun they can be. My goal is to change perceptions and encourage more people to consider adopting special needs cats, showing them that these wonderful companions can bring immense joy and love into their lives. Through my work, I hope to inspire a greater appreciation for all cats and promote more frequent adoptions, ultimately giving more cats the loving homes they deserve
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
There are plenty of resources I wish I knew about. One would be Fiverr. Some people believe it is not great to use because there may be scammers. However, if you take the time to research and read reviews of those providing services you can find some hidden gems. I have two individuals I work with from Fiver. One for editing and one that helps me to turn my books into the ebook as well as help when I need it to have my paperback published. Both do such great quality work I can’t say enough good things about them. They have significantly lowered my cost of self-publishing and they also have a quick turnaround. They are both very responsive and helpful. They have greatly increased my ability to publish positively. Also, there are review trains on Facebook. The more reviews you have the more Amazon pushes your book to other readers. Other authors are very nice in their reviews and it is really helpful as readers are going to look at those before they publish a book. It really can increase your chances of a sale. There are little things you learn from experience or just from networking that are very helpful as a self-published author.
