We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meghan Rothschild. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meghan below.
Meghan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. I NEVER wanted to be a business owner, but the universe made it very clear that that was the direction I needed to go in. It is a constant rollercoaster of emotions: landing big clients, losing others, having happy staff, having overwhelmed staff, and so on. Once you get all your ducks in a row, inevitably one wanders away…
However, I love it. And I don’t think I could have it any other way. There are many times I think about going back into the traditional role of working for someone else, but ultimately, I believe this is where I am supposed to be!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I own a full service Marketing & Public Relations firm that puts an emphasis on support women business owners. I am also a nationally recognized Public Speaker. I have nearly 20 years in the field and have had many careers! However, they’ve all been centered around Communications in some way.
I have a Masters Degree in Corporate Communications and am a Professor of all things Marketing & Public Speaking.
I am passionate about Marketing and love helping our clients find their voices through Strategic Branding.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn focusing on the problem instead of the solution. It’s incredible easy to get bogged down in things going wrong, but the true super power is focusing on the solution. This doesn’t come easy, but I share this with people who are trying to work their way up all the time. If you can present options to repair a situation instead of simply reporting what went wrong, you will be a President in no time! :)
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
Owning a business is like being on the scariest rollercoaster of all time; especially when you are responsible for the livelihood of others. There has been ONE time in 11 years of business where our bookkeeper emailed me with “we’re not going to make payroll.” It was horrifying and I had to dip into reserves, but I trusted the process and KNEW work was on the way and new contracts were being secured. I take pride in the fact that I have paid myself as the President of my company since day 1: something not all entrepreneurs can say. If you focus on providing quality work over the bottom line, things will fall into place, I promise!
