We recently connected with Bola Shasanmi and have shared our conversation below.
Bola, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents had a significant impact on me by the expectations they had of me.
They let me know that they expected me to do well in whatever field or career I chose to pursue.
As a young child, my dad would take me to the park and play soccer with me. This might not sound exceptional, but my cultural background is one that emphasizes girls as wives and homemakers.
My parents also made sure my siblings and I had lots of games and creative activities at home, that laid the foundation for my love of all things creative.
My mum encouraged financial independence, and emphasized the importance of living within one’s means.
Living on credit or in debt of any kind was always discouraged.
My parents also emphasized the importance of being honest and honorable when interacting with others, and being grateful for the blessings we had.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My husband and I have a ministry called Shazolar that seeks to help people in their journey of wholeness and wellbeing of body, soul and spirit.
We provide a wide range of services from life coaching, mentoring, christian counselling and support, to health therapies such as group fitness instruction, physical therapy advice, massage and relaxation sessions, and workshops and presentations that use creativity to communicate various topics and encourage individual’s creativity.
At present I have individual therapy clients, and run de- stress workshops and coaching classes at the Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino, CA.
I am working on a children’s book, writing songs and scripts. Some of these will be incorporated into workshops and presentations we run.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Because the services I provide are for the wellbeing of individuals, the key way in which things have grown is by being diligent in providing the best service possible at reasonable prices and actually caring about your clients.
Clients will sense if you see them mainly as a source of revenue or as individuals that you wish to serve once they know your motivation is the latter, they trust you and will continue to request your services and recommend you to others.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I trained as a physical therapist in London and at a particular point in my career I did not feel fulfilled in it.
I realized that I wanted to serve people in more than a physical capacity.
My sister had been attending a creative Bible school course and I was drawn to the combination of spiritual and creative input.
It should have been a straightforward decision to make but as expected the financial commitment was an issue.
However God provided through my parents and I was able to go on the course which led to a change in direction.
I am so grateful that I took the risk and pursued this change as it forms a major part of the services we provide.
