We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Robert Tucker II. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Robert below.
Robert , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I had to learn how to establish essential skills for excelling in these roles. This includes effective communication to engage audiences, research proficiency to gather accurate information for reporting and interviews, empathy and active listening to ask meaningful questions and understand interviewees, adaptability to navigate diverse topics and interview scenarios, and charisma and stage presence to entertain and connect with audiences.
However, obstacles such as the need to discern credible sources from misinformation, developing a unique hosting style amidst competition, technical challenges in production, and time constraints in meeting deadlines and engaging with audiences, have posed challenges to further learning and skill refinement. A big obstacle I am still trying to overcome is being a black man in a predominantly white career field. I believe our stories are just as important as anyone else’s. Overcoming these obstacles involves continuous practice, staying informed about industry trends, seeking opportunities for growth and feedback, and remembering who you are and why you love your career.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up as the youngest of four with two older sisters and a brother. However, my siblings were older so it felt like I grew up as an only child. My mother has worked as a nurse and my father worked in the medical field also. I grew up as an individual who always had a liking for the spotlight since I was 5 years old. I was at the altar with my pastor on “Youth Sunday ”, and he asked all the children who were next to him who had a message they wanted to tell the congregation. I immediately grabbed the mic and sang “Wade in the Water ”. Everyone stood up and gave me a standing ovation. Ever since, I have been in a dozen plays, hosted hundreds of events and more. In high school, I was the head news anchor, three sports athlete, and Honor Roll student. Due to the circumstances of me having great relationships with people at the school, I was able to host multiple events, such as relaying the Morning Announcements, Pep Rallies, and panel discussions. As I proceeded to get ready to attend college, I lost the opportunity to possibly play collegiate football when I got in a car accident. However, this gave me the opportunity to continue to prosper within my career field of journalism, entertainment and hosting events. While matriculating to college, I was able to contribute to the Tallahassee community with service and a voice.
I was a part of multiple student-led organizations, had my own radio show for 2 years called “The Saturday Morning Show, head news Anchor, and hosted a multitude of events. After I graduated in 2023, I moved to New York City to work for ABC News Headquarters, Inc. When I moved here, I wanted to be able to establish some of my own personal content. Therefore, I started doing street interviews to people about all kinds of different topics. Mostly topics about HBCUs and current issues around the world. This allowed me to land opportunities with former NFL MVP Cam Newton and 12 time NBA All Star Chris Paul. Because I wanted to further my education, I was able to enroll at Louisiana State University (Hybrid), which I am expected to graduate in December. This platform allowed me to learn different personalities of people from different backgrounds. I have also been able to talk to legendary musicians such as T.I.P Harris and TLC. I have been able to interview social media influencers like Desi Banks, Gillie da King and DJ Envy. I have also been able to learn from Good Morning America’s anchors Gio Benitez, Whit Johnson and Robin Roberts. Last but not least, I was able to have a brief conversation with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris. My mission is to inform people that every one’s story is significant, no matter how big or small. I am inspired by traditional ways of storytelling, but also digital media as well. Being able to establish your own platform is a beautiful thing. Therefore, I am grateful for being able to have such a great support system and learning ability in regards to any person I communicate with. I want potential followers, supporters and or fans to know that I am a humble but confident individual. I want for you to be able to relate to any topic that I speak of, no matter if it’s based on community involvement, cultural influence or humor. I am a storyteller, and it is my goal to entertain you at all cost. I am most proud of continuing to strive for my goals, even when I feel that I am complacent.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in life is to be the most diligent, consistent, and knowledgeable individual I can be. Within my career, I want to be one of the most versatile, enthusiastic, ambitious and remarkable journalist-entertainment personalities in the world. I have aspirations of hosting big events like a New Years eve countdown in Times Square, host a nationally syndicated television and game show, along with being selected to host major award shows and red carpet appearances. I want to be able to inspire the rising community of journalists to do things their way, and be their own leader.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I did my best to become persistent and consistent! I was willing to try new opportunities that weren’t received well, and new challenges that were. Some videos many people weren’t necessarily fond of. However, others received thousands of views. However, I do not do it just for the views (even though I do want people to acknowledge my art ), but I do it for the passion. Being able to share stories that people can relate to is the most important thing. The followers will come over time, you just have to be diligent and willing to fail in order to prevail. I also take advantage of collaborations. Being able to share a post with one-five other platforms allows me to get my message across to a broader audience.
